I know lots of people that are opposed to abortion. Basically my whole family plus most of the people I grew up with. No one I know closely has had an abortion.
Birth control is totally different. I don’t know anyone that is opposed to birth control. Every woman I know has been on it. All the Republican woman I know are on it. The Republican guys wives and girlfriends are all on it. I just don’t think there is a realistic chance of them rolling it back, and saying that’s why people should vote blue is not going to win any votes.
I do think the fact that Trump apparently didn’t know what contraception means is a significant point. Charlie Dent was on CNN and this was his take — Trump just doesn’t understand the word and the different between both control and medical abortion. Which is scary and sad.

You think the words of Republicans about how they plan to go after birth control makes Democrats sound not credible? Why don’t you read the thread first and then comment?

Most Republican voters use birth control and support it. Most Republican voters oppose abortion and have been fighting to ban it for decades.

Overturning of Roe was not surprising to anyone who was paying attention.

This is just a scare tactic by the Dems. There of course are fringe extremists who want to ban birth control but most Republicans do not. Just like there are some Democrats who really want to abolish ICE and the police but most do not.

Stop lying. What happened in Virginia then a couple weeks ago? Yougkin vetoed a bill that would have protected access to birth control.

It’s not a scare tactic. The Republican Party is already doing it.

This. How in the world has it come to pass that birth control is something Donald Trump says "we are looking at" regarding its availability and access to it and Youngkin thinks it's controversial to guarantee the right to access it? Good god.

Because of right wing extremism and because of people who scold Democrats for noticing right wing extremism. You know. Samesies.

Truly it’s those “moderates” who will disbelieve what Republicans are actually in order to… think Republicans aren’t complete crap? to protect some weird tribal worldview? to make themselves feel some measure of control while still voting a split ticket, you know, “for balance.”

If "most Republican voters use birth control and support it," why have recent efforts by state legislatures throughout the US to codify the right of access to contraception been unsuccessful?

"According to the Guttmacher Institute, an abortion-rights research group, lawmakers in 27 states during this legislative session introduced more than 59 bills and proposed constitutional amendments that would codify the right to access contraception. Only the Democratic-controlled Virginia Legislature was able to pass legislation that would have codified the right to contraception in the state constitution." (Youngkin vetoed the bill).

In addition, the GOP is defining the morning after pill as an abortificant even though women take it to prevent pregnancy rather than to terminate a pregnancy, so that is an example of limiting access to contraception.

Because there are a significant number of Republican women who have such deeply internalized misogyny that they’re not thinking straight on many of these issues and because there are a number of occasional Republican women who refuse to let themselves understand what the GOP is doing.

oh stfu with the “scare tactic” line. people like you were equally claiming it was a “scare tactic” that states would outlaw abortion post-Row.

What has happened with abortion over the past 8 years or so has been obvious as soon as Trump got number of appointees he did.

Let me know when SCOTUS abolishes interstate commerce and effectively upholds the prohibition of interstate travel for the purposes of abortion.

How condescending. Women who don’t agree with you can’t think straight or let themselves understand? Give me a break.

Do you want to have access to birth control?

If that is important to you and you vote Republican, stupid is the only word that can apply.

OK, well maybe delusional.

Alito or Thomas, can't remember which hack it was, wrote in the Dobbs opinion that Griswold v. Connecticut should be revisited.

Erin Hawley's group will no doubt challenge it at some point.

They are saying it out loud. Believe them.

He pretty much said the same thing about Brown vs Board this week.

This is not some fringe issue within the GOP. This is part of their big plan to remake America into a Christian Nationalist country. A number of women will sleep walk toward this, sure without paying attention, that it’s all Democratic scare tactics.

What’s condescending in noting that women happily participate in creating their own second class state because they’ve internalized misogyny? It’s the truth.

No, no, no - you’re just a Dem with scare tactics. No one should pay any attention to what Republicans or saying or doing.
