UVA is ranked 24-27 due to a tie.

Lol, Columbia climbed from the low of 18 to 12 - all just for pulling out of this useless USNews. Columbia consistently ranks somewhere around #5 in Forbes and WSJ. Something is wrong.

I agree one thousand percent. It’s just too unnerving to the private high school / private college crowd because it is so contrary to their world view. I’ve always said you’re crazy to throw so much money away on second tier privates over top public colleges. This is more proof of that. UVA, UMD, Tech, the UC schools, UNC, the Big Ten schools, etc are clearly better than all of the bullshit $80k year privates that so many on DCUM have convinced themselves are educational necessities.

Don’t forget UF, which I think really shakes DCUM to its core

I think 5 and 12 out of thousands of schools is not a big difference.

I know that college choice shouldn’t come down to rankings but I am actually questioning my child’s decision to apply to Wake Forest and Tulane. On the other hand, said child is not interested in STEM and that is what many of these large state schools excel at.

They don’t just excel at STEM. And spending all of that money on a non-STEM degree is even more crazy.

What are you talking about?

24 < 25

Did you take any math classes in your life?

Anonymous wrote:It is noticeable that all the top publics went up in rankings except for one. Only UVA went down and out of top 25. Wonder why?

They were tied at 25 last year and tied at 24 this year so they went up, troll. C’mon man do better.

Except you are in DCUM where parents fret over this nonsense.

It is at 26. Went from 25 to 26.

? It’s tied for #24, and they list the ties in alphabetical order. I’m sorry your kid was rejected from UVA and didn’t get that sweet in-state tuition to a top-tier school.

There is no significant difference

agree

The previous list was just a who's who among the wealthy schools, including but not limited to schools that use legacy admits, which causes superficial elitism.

All of these bizarre college rankings perpetuate elitism. Taking in additional considerations related to Pell grants, etc, make a minimal difference when you look at the big picture and the consistent top 25-30 schools. Guys, US News has to update these annual lists are to sell its product. Logic has been set aside and we’re all treating this like some crazy sporting event and taking these silly lists way too seriously. Check out resources like the Fiske guide (which, admittedly rates, but doesn’t rank) instead.
