And my point was that the insane push toward ethnic diversity and diversity of other types has to a large extent pushed great students out of our schools. At no point in my post did I say it is NOT common for someone of this kid's stats to get rejected. If you read what I wrote, I said he is not a dime a dozen compared to students who get ADMITTED. The students who are admitted include a very large group idiots. If you don't think rejecting highly intelligent people and admitting idiots is a problem, then I don't think I'm interested in talking with you

The fact remains that the over prepping ruined the tests for the students, and now the colleges are. looking for different attributes.

Just to be clear, you're suggesting to me that the students who can't add a column of numbers and write a paragraph describing a simple process are NOT idiots? I had a student at a top 20 program come up to me and insist she had never seen an exponent before. She literally had no idea how to raise something to the third power. Another student didn't understand that 10% and 1/10th are the same thing. I'm not making this up. Do you teach?

I think test score is at least most objective and fair, so that disadvantaged intelligent and capable students get chance to compete.

Standardized testing has racist origins in the U S (and was used to justify segregation in the military and schools)., is culturally biased ( "pre test" questions that were answered correctly by most blacks were thrown out), and today is more a reflection of household income , test prep, and superscoriing.

Test is still the most fair and objective for all students.

A large reason why there are only 3.4% blacks at Berkeley has to do with the fact that those admitted have options to go elsewhere. My black DC who didn't get admitted got into HYP and gladly will be going there. Being one of only 10 blacks in a class of thousands obviously wouldn't be an attractive option either. Most people don't like being the only "one" anywhere.

California’s entire Black population is only 5.5%. OOO admittance to UC schools are as bad as OOO admittance to NC schools. Your 3.4% flex isn’t what you think it is. I know two kids from San Diego who were admitted to UCLA and chose Morehouse and Howard respectively. Yeah I know it my anecdote, but it aligns with what the other poster wrote about her child choosing Harvard over Berkley.

They were not athletes. Surprisingly, the athletes in my classes have been pretty good. At least, they are very motivated. Then again I'm not at a school that has a top 10 college basketball program, where I'm sure standards for academics in sports are much lower

The Supreme Court of the United States has a specific mission to block any sort of discrimination. Yes, Americans have fought for this.

Where did you get this idea? That's not correct. If you're talking about the 5th and 14th amendments to the U.S. Constitution they prohibit the government from discriminating - their authority certainly does not extend to "block[ing] any sort of discrimination."

Sorry, the Supreme Court of the United States will block colleges from racial discrimination.

And colleges still won't accept all stem majors, so good luck.

Oh geez. Some people just do well without expensive test prep. My brother and I both scored in the top 1 percent and were national merit scholar finalists and neither of us took a class. We did buy practice books and did a bunch of practice problems. Yes we are Asian (South Asian).
