+1 This poster is obsessed. She posts exactly the same thing, verbatim, in every thread about VT. And yet, VT is 60% white/Asian - and other schools do exactly the same thing, they just don't publicize it. Some really sour grapes there. |
Not when their overall was 70+ |
Yep |
I don’t think Tech is doing this. My daughter with a 4.6, 1530 got in and she applied EA. |

Asian Female OOS 3.9UW 4.5W TO Visited the school for a session in her potential major in the College of Agriculture. Loved it. $3K merit Won't attend as cost is higher than our in-state option and two OOS options which gave much more merit. Shame because it was her favorite school. Former VA residents. |
What are you talking about? Their above SCHEV states that the in-state acceptance rate for 2021-22 was 44%. USNWR states that its overall rate was 56%. https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/virginia-tech-3754/applying Those sour grapes sure are a terrible look. |
+1 And my (white) son had almost identical stats and got in EA last year. So much misinformation from a handful of disgruntled parents. |
And for those who were asking another poster why they applied if the cost is too high, we did because our in-state option was not a sure thing. So many kids apply to our in-state school from our high school that we were questioning whether she'd be accepted. We also had no idea if she'd get merit from the other two OOS schools she applied to. We COULD pay VT rates if we had to (had she not been accepted or not gotten merit elsewhere) but it isn't our preference. For us, in-state option is $24K, two OOS schools are $36K (includes merit). VT is $48K (includes $3K merit). She is most likely going to one of the OOS schools for $36K. |

I'm curious - were there any very high stats kids who were waitlisted who were NOT applying for engineering/CS? |
W&M and UVA’s Presidents didn’t announce an all-out charge to make the campuses 40% URM and first generation |
Of course Tech is engaging in yield protection. It has been for the last four years. Go back here on DCUM and read the ED, EA, and RD threads and look at the stats of kids deferred or waitlisted. They are astounding. Do the same at College Confidential and Reddit. Just because your kid got in doesn’t mean similarly situated kids did not |
Not, it’s not. |
Which oos gave more merit? |
