Maybe so. how do you know it is race-blind or gender-blind? |
I have no skin in the game as my child is in but I would not brag about the "very real accomplishments" of kids who got in versus the ones who did not.
I really think it's very arbitrary once you get past the very top kids. It's more about luck. Your child got lucky. Mine got. Theirs did not. Don't devalue their achievements because some parents are confused and upset about what happened. It could very well have been you who is in that position. |
I don't think it's gender blind. |
It’s not gender blind but it is race blind. They told us at the various open houses. It’s also school blind, though unclear if they can tell who is TPMS from their grades. |
It's not. |
Don't believe that it is race blind or school blind going by what I see. |
You are twisting what I said. I said nothing about the kids that didn’t get in, I said don’t devalue the accomplishments of the kids that DID get in, just because you are bitter. I had thought it was arbitrary too, but for kids who got into four or five programs and were therefore picked by four or five different committees, I think there was something about their application that made them stand out. |
It said it in both the rejection and wait pool letters. Either you didn’t get it or you didn’t read carefully. Definitely a lot wrong with this process . |
You know Indians are Asians, right? |
Haha. Well I guess you know better. We should listen to the anonymous stranger instead of the peeler who are actually on the committee. What’s your theory about both? |
Ah, gotcha. We only got invites so I didn't see that. Apologies |
you are such a great parent with a great kid. not talking down to people. congrats. That doesn't mean there is not an unfair system. agree there is no perfect system. there was a reason there was a test and teacher recs before - to not just rely on MAP - which is gameable through AOPS, etc, and grades. I hear the test is back next year which may make it fairer. |
PP here. I would definitely check it out, though proximity and friends are good reasons. We are closer to Blair too, and that was the main reason my oldest chose Blair over RMIB. It's a pain hiking out to Wheaton sometimes, but my 2nd is really happy with the program, and we think the school is terrific. Good luck! |
It's not race blind. Look at the pictures on the website. The 290 kid should get in over the 260 kid, no question. |
Isn’t this the “splitting hairs” that AEI says they’re trying to eliminate by using a lottery? Maybe they should do a lottery here too. Then it won’t bring out the nasty. |
