What, exactly, is going to get worse? Do you know the motive of the assailant?

It was not a burglary he asked where Nancy was

California law defines a burglary as entering a property with the intent to commit another felony. It helps to know something about which one is posting.

I’m asking for a police report.

Call the PIO and demand a copy. They’ll surely mske it a priority.,

I’m asking because of this story: https://www.ktvu.com/news/alleged-pelosi-intruder-has-manifesto-of-conspiracy-theories-sources

Did the police mention this in their press conference? He apparently had an arrest a while back for unstable behavior but the District Attorney at the time pressed no charges. Stories like this always unfold over time.

19 years ago. There is no charge except murder that he would still be in prison for.

And therein lies the problem. If not prison, then remain in an institution or mental hospital.

Are you suggesting that everyone who trespasses while shouting "where's Nancy?" should get life in prison or be permanently institutionalized for incurable mental illness?

No. I do believe very strongly that individuals who display violent behavior should not be out on low bail or no bail; that if a person commits a violent assault, rapes, or murders, then that person should be in prison, in a supervised group home with required meds administered, orr institutionalized for life.

Is that what happened here? It seems like he had some issue with the law in the early 2000s, then nothing for almost 2 decades (aside from conspiracy theories and far right propaganda consumption and sharing), then tries to harm/kill the speaker of the house by breaking into her home and attempting to murder her husband.

If nothing means living on the streets, doing drugs, and speaking with angels and aliens, sure I guess you could say he did 'nothing'. Reality shows that the 'nothings' turned into 'something.

Do you want life in prison for all addicts? I don't think any of the other stuff you mentioned is illegal. What do you propose? Do you know how hard it is to get treatment for addiction or mental illness? I honestly can't tell if you're advocating for harsher penalties for nonviolent drug offenders, advocating for more accessible treatment for mental illness and/or addiction, or just being argumentative.

If they don't want help or can't afford help, it can't be forced on them. So there's not a lot to be done in the real world currently, unless someone commits a crime. Even then, most of the time they're not helped but sent to jail which is just temporary housing. If you're advocating for life sentences for people who use drugs, I guess that's one way to solve the housing problem.

Looks like Youngkin didn’t get the memo.

These comments may not be PC enough for you, but they are correct.

I'm not seeing how these comments are different from not having sympathy for anti-vaxxers who get hospitalized or die from Covid. The sentiment is the same.

EXACTLY. I’m recalling lots of “thots and prayers” and “play stupid games, win stupid prizes” comments from the LWNJ peanut gallery. Loads of snickering and derisive remarks when Rand Paul was violently attacked by his neighbor. Many had the gall to say that he deserved it - and none of those comments were deleted. It’s pretty rich that the same hypocritical crowd is calling anyone a “ghoul” for pointing out some obvious facts about this attack.

You are doing exactly what you are "trying to make a point against" How about you just be a kind human and acknowledge that this is awful. Show some empathy and humanity. Don't be the person who adds to the hostility. What has happened to us as humans. SAD!

Ok great you are so book smart too bad you have zero common sense. The rest of us know this was political violence.

PP here. I don't know this guy's history; just mean going forward after his assault on Mr. Pelosi. People with whatever his issues are should not be walking around freely.

Nice strawman. People charged with attempted murder generally don’t walk around freely. Also, IIRC California has a 3-strikes law for certain felonies.

DP. Are you for real? Do you follow current events, even a little? JFC.

Do you know anything about the law? This is a case where there will be no eligibility for pretrial release (No Bail).

The law depends on knowing what’s printed in all those high falutin’ “books” with fancy Latin words. You even have to pass a 3-day exam to demonstrate minimal proficiency in California.

Too bad Reagan closed down all the federal support for mental illness so that he could give tax cuts.

You are correct that he is being charged with burglary, but there are a few other charges as well. I didn't even have to learn Latin:

Could you point me to that portion of my post where I made the assertion that he would not or could not be charged with any other crime? Christ, what an insufferable know-it-all assh*le you must be in real life.

A deescalation strategy seems like a very prudent approach when someone has broken into your house and is intent on tying you up. But feel free to let your freak flag fly if that’s how you want to roll.

This is how conspiracy theories start. Someone is too thick to understand logic and assumes there's something shady going on, rather than realizing the old man who woke up to a break in by someone with a hammer looking for his wife is trying to get the police to come save him without making hammer guy angry enough to attack.

Not a conspiracy theory. Just a moron stirring the pot.
