Public library vs a high school library would be a better comparison Work and school are not the same you dolt. The comparison doesn’t even make sense. No one is making either book as assigned reading. No one is making the students give PowerPoint presentations. The books are in the library for students to find, check out and read on their on their own time, alone in their rooms. |
Decent people like me are angered by ignoramuses like you who spread lies to score political points. |

This is the incident in question. |
That is a hUGE relief. Thank you! |
Amen to that! The more religious nut jobs that leave the better!!! If you want strict, conservative religious bigotry, PLEASE do us all a solid and leave! |
Still waiting to understand why you didn’t read Judy Blume growing up. That might provide some insights into your “upbringing” that you referenced. |
| So why don’t all these conservative parents who are so outraged just, I don’t know, Parent and tell their kids not to check out the books? Lord, heaven forbid these parents teach anything themselves instead of making the school board do everything. Be involved, folks. Your kids don’t have to read this. Chances are that if you’d stopped moaning your kids would never even have heard about these books. But parents have to make the biggest fuss with parenting the least |
Honest question? Were those images I saw on Twitter of animated oral sex not accurate? Cause there’s no way that’s not pornography |
You can bet these parents watch porn or their kids do, but heaven above if they read about it. Hello, Duggar family! |
Projection much? |
Let’s see what happens if the students at all the schools with copies of this book try to include these images in their student yearbooks. The odds are 99.5% they’d be censored by the faculty advisors or principals. But because they were called out at a meeting that embarrassed the 12-0 Democrat School Board, the usual suspects are going to claim they are perfectly acceptable. |
First, I don’t get my news from Twitter. I have no idea if those were images from the book and neither do you. Why don’t you read the book before you comment? Second, no. The images that I have seen from the book are not pornography. They are not in any way intended to make the viewer sexually aroused. They were not salacious or gratuitous. I’m not a fan of the book but no one who actually read it can claim that it’s purpose is to sexually arose the reader. There are also graphic depictions of bloody sanitary napkins. Are you in the demographic that gets off on those? It’s a coming of age story filled with awkwardness and weirdness and uncomfortable stuff. Kind of like life. Not my cup of tea but no one is forcing me or my son to check it out from the library. If it will make another kid feel seen or help a kid understand someone else’s story and be more empathetic, an awkward daring of a sex act seems a small price to pay. |
“I’d like two things that are not equivalent, Alex” One book out of 50,000 in a school library collection is not equal to a school sponsored publication that is distributed to the entire student body. The same way me telling my best friend privately about my period pain is not the same as delivering a high school commencement so each on the same topic. Why is this so hard? (Because you are responding to trolls. No one is actually This stupid. Right?) |
Wait.. what? The Quran and the Bible are in the school library... now that could really get the RNC ginned up. Alert the press. |
🚨 🚨 🚨 GOP OUTRAGE ALERT 🚨 🚨 🚨 Attention, brainless plebes. Please be aware that FCPS has disgusting filth - the Bible and Quran - in the school libraries. Proceed with full outrage mode. |
