What’s going on with the two bills?

Manchin, ducking over America for what? How much is he getting paid? How much would these bills help his crappy state? And why do sociopaths cheer him on in this? Must be nice for Republicans to have not one but two turncoats in the Democratic Party helping to stop any and all progress no matter how many millions of Americans voted for it.

Holy shit I'm so glad to be watching this fail live-and-televised. So entertaining.

Can't wait til Sanders and Jayapal get to a mike and say something they can't take back. If Biden has to fly back from the G20 early just to keep them from killing each other OH. MY. GOD.

I'm cheering him on because the supply chain is f**ked up, inflation is at a 30-year high, gas is crazy expensive, and food prices are at record levels. How about the progressives focus on policies that are not guaranteed to increase those numbers with free unearned cash sent to pockets of people not working, never working, and won't be ever working again if this bill passes?

Millions of us do not believe that what the progressives (and you, apparently) are pushing constitute "progress" at all.
And, because we agree with Manchin that ridiculous amounts of spending is over the top we are now "sociopaths?"

Just because you might have members in the Democratic caucus who get pay-outs, don't assume that Manchin is getting paid by anyone. He is actually one of the few with any common sense on the Democratic side.

One more thing..... this monstrosity of a bill is not nearly as popular as you think it is.

The supply chain flocking began under Trump, as did so much of this mess. How about the GOP and the two GOP-lite Democrats actually negotiate in good faith to address problems? Who’s getting free unearned cash? CinnaMansion negotiated out a lot of damn important stuff. I am sick to death of the actual wants and needs of this country being held hostage to whatever right wingers want. “Win more elections!” We did! We still never get to make progress! Meanwhile the earth burns and the GOP is half excited by the prospect of making money off it and the other half is giddy because it fuels their end times delusion.

I fully support any member of the House or Senate, regardless of party, voting against this ridiculous spending bill.
It will do nothing to improve the lives of most Americans.

1.75 T / 10 years is not expensive.

Once again for those never listening: this bill is insanely popular, despite the corporate media trying to smear it as loudly and as often as possible.

Manchin doesn’t have a lick of common sense. Numerous people have pointed out just how much his state stands to benefit from this, as well as how popular it is in his state. But his whole family is morally and ethically compromised. Or maybe you enjoy paying highway robbery prices for Epi-pens. Maybe you enjoy being gouged by Big Pharma. Maybe you just enjoy knowing that your little pile in life is bigger than someone else’s and that’s the only thing that keeps you going. Meanwhile the billionaires are sitting on entire planets of money.

Hey, Hard Return, you’re back with your right wing brainwashed propaganda!

The Child Tax Credits are free unearned cash. They are sending out $300 month payments per child without limits to 97% of American families up to $400,000 in income. It doesn't matter if you have 8 kids or 13 kids. There is no means testing - the progressives balked even requiring households to earn a paltry $2,500/year to qualify. You don't even have to earn income - you just have to have a pulse and file taxes as a household. If you're making $55,000 as a couple, have 5 kids in Ohio - you are taking in $1,500/mo and $18,000/year just in CTC payments. At no point would your tax return have reflected a government check of $18,000. Its just not possible.

People are getting paid $1,000, $2,000, $3,000, $4,000 a month to have kids and there's neither a limit nor a stipulation. Free income. No requirements. For 18 years per child. Is it any wonder the workforce is decimated?

He just wants to see the CBO scoring. So you will be disappointed.

supply chain is a product of failed capitalism and COVID
inflation is high because we are rebounding from the moribund economy Trump left
Gas is expensive for the same reason, but it is still lower than it was under W
Food is getting more expensive, but I subscribe to a CSA, so it doesn't really impact me

All that says is Jayapal backed herself into a corner. Of course the progressives will vote for both bills. We always knew they would. Manchin and Sinema however? Less that a quarter of a chance and there is NO chance they'll get a GOP Senator to help them out of that corner.

Because herein lies the problem for the progressive caucus. Their argument is "we won't pass this joint win without making sure all of it goes through and the American people get some actual expansion of tangible benefit in line with the rest of the first world."

Joe Manchin doesn't care if any of it actually passes.

So now the progressives run the risk of being the face of denying infrastructure investment for the sake of wanting all their toys.

Both bills will pass the House. Once the CBO scoring is done, Manchin's concerns will be alleviated and he and Sinema will be on board.

Manchin is the Senator from WV who doesn't understand that people who qualify for paid work leave already have a job.
