| No clue. We have a lot of walking trails nearby, and I see people leave bags near the entrances with the intention to pick them up on the way out, but this is a new one. |
In our neighborhood everyone who walks their dogs and do a full neighborhood loop will drop the bags and pick them up upon return. It’s only an issue if they don’t ever pick them up going back. A bag of dog poop on the edge of your property for 30 minutes is a big deal? |
DP. Yes. Carry it with you. Or put it in front of another dog person’s house. |
I do this, but I never leave the bag on another person's property. I usually try to get the dogs to poop on our property before we go for a longer walk. It doesn't always work and sometimes there is a surprise second poop, in which case I might leave the bags tucked behind a tree in the common area away from anyone's property and pick them up when I come back. In a park where there are no trash cans, I sometimes also leave the bags under my car and pick them up as I leave. Honestly, its sometimes a better plan than carrying them, especially if you have more than one dog. That way, they don't get dropped by mistake. |

It’s never occurred to me to leave a poop bag someplace so I don’t have to carry it, with the intention of coming back for it. What? That’s ridiculous.

Why is it such a big problem? I started doing it after I realized one day after a long hike that I'd accidentally dropped one of the bags I was carrying and then had to double back to try to find it. |
Your response answers your own question. What if you don’t find it? Why do you think other people want to see gross, smelly poop bags on their hike or walk?! |
She said she comes back for it. It is kind of a pain to carry a bag of poop on your whole 45 minute walk. I regularly do a 45-50 minute walk that takes me through a park and past trash cans about 20 minutes in so I carry the baggie until then and if the dog goes again, I carry it until I get home. But every once in a while the dog goes 3 minutes into our walk right near the entrance to my neighborhood and I toss the bag behind the big brick sign to the neighborhood and get it on my way home. It is not in anyone's yard and it would rarely be seen by anyone. And I always pick it up 40-45 minutes later. I have never put a poop bag in someone's private trash and never would and I have never left a poop on someone's private property. I also only let my dog poop on the stretch of grass between the sidewalk and the street. Any complaints here? |
Uh, that's the point. What don't you get? I always bag the poop. If my dogs poops toward the beginning of an hour walk, rather than risking dropping it and not finding it, I stick it behind a tree where no one can see it and pick it up on my way back. If I'm in a park, and close to my car, I put it under my car. |
| Serious question for the bag droppers—how would you feel about someone leaving a balled-up dirty diaper along a trail/road/behind a sign, with the intent of coming back for it? |
|
We had an issue with repeated dog poops in our yard. Got two security cameras and found out it was two high school kids walking their dogs late in the evening - being lazy and not picking up the poop.
Frankly, the camera's are fairly obvious because they have small spot lights on them that come on when motion is sensed, so I suspect that some the frequent dog walkers may have noticed them and they serve as a deterrent. |

The only solution!

OMG. This is my worst fear. I hope you spoke with the parents. I have told my kids that there will be severe repercussions if I ever find out that they didn't clean up after our dogs. |
| I don’t see the big deal. Just put it in your trash can! At least it’s not all over yard |
+1. What is wrong with these people? How do you not understand that leaving bags of poop lying around is a gross thing to do? Don’t want to carry dog poop bags for 20 minutes? Don’t have a dog. |
