Just binged Friday Night Lights

My friend tried to get me to watch it a few years ago and I tried but couldn't get past an episode or two. Then I just decided to stick with it and I loved it.

Is it good if you're not into football?

Yes! I put off watching it for so long because I though "ugh, football show" and then so many people recommended it that I took a chance. So good. It's one of my top 5 shows ever and I've watched the whole series at least 3 times.

For sure. I actively hate almost all sports and I love that show.

I love how many people stumbled on one of the greatest shows of all time because they thought it was about football.

New poster. I absolutely love that show. I was also very sad when it ended and feel incredibly envious of people just getting into it. I love the characters, the music, the themes and I can’t stand Julie Taylor and how beautiful all the people were for one small Texas town but I happily suspended reality and soaked it all in.

FNL consistently gets picked as having the best pilot episode of all time. Tim Riggins forever All the characters on that show quite good - Matt, Vince, Landry, Justin... I recently watched All American on NetFlix - sort of FNL, combined with 90210, combined with Boyz in the Hood. I really enjoyed it.

OP here and I watch All American with my teen DD and like it a lot. And I hate football, haha. But I’ve developed an appreciation for it as a “molder of men.”

Ohh, Matt Saracen was wonderful!

His “everyone leaves me” shower scene with Coach is one of the best ever.

Yes he was fantastic! That actor really made you feel his sadness but also resilience.

I really don't think there are any similar shows. It was unique.

Watch All American! It has so many similarities that it's basically a rip-off, but also very enjoyable! The setting is Beverly Hills and South Crenshaw instead of Texas.
I loved All American and I can’t wait for the spin-off show to start. Also, there’s a new reality show on Netflix called Hilltown High. It’s about the football team at the high school in Valdosta, Ga and their journey to try to make it to the 2020 state championship game (I guess this school did not shut dow for COVID). It’s an easy watch and I binged it it one day. It’s kinda corny with the teenager drama stuff , but I’ll admit that I got really caught up in the football part, routing for them and feeling bummed for them at times. You do see how the coach really does have a major influence on these players and there’s even a little twist/drama at the end involving the head coach.

^^ Sorry, I got the name wrong of the Netflix show. It’s called Titletown High.

Tim Riggins. Best tortured teen character since Dylan McKay.
