I got bogged down in year 3 (I think it was). I think it was the “weird soap opera” storyline referenced above. I enjoyed it until then. I keep thinking I’ll go back and give it another try.

FWIW, I grew up in a town about that size in Texas, so maybe it was a little too close to home?

There was a writers strike and the show went off the rails for a few episodes but it comes back to normal.

+1

Please watch the seasons after that nonsense in season three. Vince is my absolute favorite hs student in the show (even above the glorious Tim Riggins). The seasons with Vince are amazing.

Thanks to this thread, I just found it on Netflix and watched the first two episodes. I love the song Devil Town by Daniel Johnston.

I can NOT imagine growing up in a place where everyone cares about this one thing that I couldn't care less about, to the point that businesses CLOSE on game days.

To me, that in itself is idyllic. And both characters always had the most perfect advice, always knew what to say to help the students, always did the right thing.

Are coaches this influential unreal life? I’m not from a sports family.

Nice to imagine him living in his little house on his plot of countryside.

The series finale is absolutely perfect.

That storyline came during the writer's strike. It was bad. That's why it sort of disappeared quickly and was never spoken of again...

I could just watch him stand still for a full hour and be happy.

I really don't think there are any similar shows. It was unique.

Watch All American! It has so many similarities that it's basically a rip-off, but also very enjoyable! The setting is Beverly Hills and South Crenshaw instead of Texas.

I always thought the actor playing matt Saracen was so underrated. He really did excellent job and I haven’t seen him in much of anything since.

Can’t lose!

+!- one of my all time favorite shows & I grew up in a town where Friday Night Football was a huge deal.

I always enjoyed watching coach’s hair emote. It was another full character in the show that should have received it’s own salary.

Loved the show though. Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose. (Can’t really get behind Texas forever these days.)
