Sleeping with a relative..

Anonymous
My sister started dating a guy and when my mom heard his last name, she asked what his parents' names were. Turns out our grandma was his grandpa's cousin (no clue what that makes them). It was on my dad's side of the family and we never knew any of the extended family on his side. They were freaked out and broke up, but ended up getting back together for a little while. They broke up later but not because of that. I thought it was funny because I liked teasing her about dating her cousin, but honestly, I didn't think it was that big of a deal.

Third cousin-fine. But no babies without solid genetic counseling.

That would be a hard no for me.

Most people couldn't name a third cousin of theirs if they tried. Go for it.

I know a bunch of my third cousins and maybe that is why it grosses me out.

All good, OP.

But if you end up getting married, don't refer to him as you "cuzband", even in jest.

Go for it!

The Queen of England married her 3rd cousin. Prince Phillip.

In some cultures, there’s no distinction between first, second, third cousins. In other cultures, people not only can’t name their third cousins, but can’t even explain how third cousins are related. If you and your third cousin both feel comfortable having a romantic relationship, then it’s fine, but that would be the worst if you came onto him and he was like, “We’re related! What the hell is wrong with you?!”

🤔 good point. No issues with their kids.

And there have been no issues in that family, whatsoever, so feel free to use them as role models.

Dated someone in college not knowing we were related (2nd cousin, families had a fall out before i was born), by the time we found out we had closed the deal several times but broke up. We are still in touch but don't think much about it.

Am I the only one who wouldn't know a third cousin? I don't even know of any of my second cousins. I'm vaguely aware that my parents are in some general form of Christmas-card contact with some of their cousins, but I don't have the slightest idea who they are.

I don’t know my third cousins at all. For all I know I dated one. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
