Can you tell me about upscale southern culture?

+1

Especially the bit about the Gucci loafers and Kelly bag.

I’m going to sell mine on TheRealReal right now because of this thread. Native Virginian.

Atlanta is VERY showy. A lot of 'all hat no cattle' types. I'd be weary and make sure she sees how he handles every day life. I'd also make sure they have conversations around family life and her continuing to work after children. Some men like this assume the wife will give up her career.

Yes a lot of all hat and no cattle. I'm the pp whose in laws are old south and they have a friend who hangs out with them that is a big time horse person from a super prominent family but is broke and always mooching off of them.

+100

I'm not from there, but I spent some time in various parts of the south and the "big hat, no cattle" shtick is a huge thing, unfortunately. You see it here, too, but the LCOL (relative to DC, NYC, SF) down there makes disposable income go further, resulting in more opportunities for putting on appearences.

Gucci is Eurotrash. Many good southerners would not be caught dead in that Italian stuff.

Bump the price up 20% because these are the items from the FAMED DCUM thread, sold by a TRUE native Virginian. Don't forget to attach your DAR card with the photos as proof.

Gucci loafters and Kelly bags are for the shahs of sunset, not southern aristocracy.

In addition to the above, can a wise DCUMer please opine on whether or not old money would wear Chico's?

LOL. My cats scratched my DAR card and it’s barely legible. Damn.

So - does this mean a black card makes the value drop by 40% and immediately trigger an authentication inspection? LOL

But...are you related somehow to Robert E. Lee if you're a real Virginian? That's the real test, my friend.

Ah, that mean you've had yours for a VERY long time and it's been passed down generation to generation; it was one of the first DAR cards ever given out. That's an extra 10% added to the price right there.

I have a rich southern family and a rich northern family and the southern family is the same except more racist, at least most of them. They do have better vacation homes and rural properties. I would argue better decorating. That’s it. I’d like to say the nepotism is worse but that would be too generous to my northern family.
The southern family has no academics but it’s too small a sample to say that means anything.
