What's with all the positive Covid cases in staff at Williamsburg?

Honest question. So what do you do if you see cases at your school?

My kids are back. I fully expect there to be cases. I understood that was the risk when I decided to send them. I figure if they were in close contact we'd be notified.

DP, but I check for awareness not to take action. However, if a huge cluster was impacted at our MS, I might think about options. Many of these kids hang out after school or on sports teams.

Honestly, if we were at Williamsburg right now, we would be keeping our kid home. We are not having him ride the bus right now because there have been 3 positive cases in the transportation department since spring break, and I figure (but don't know) that that has been bus drivers. Is that nuts? I dunno. We (the parents) have not been able to get fully vaccinated yet but have some extra risks so are trying to be careful.

My kids are at WMS and I am not worried at all, for their sake, about this “cluster.” I hope the staff are feeling well and get better soon. Staff, of all levels, had plenty of time to get vaccinated if they want. One of my kids at WMS has had Covid and the other hasn’t. Exposures are going to happen. They are masked and spread out. Most teachers teach from an iPad and don’t interact with the students at all. My kids have had lunch outside every day except one. If you are worried your kid was exposed, talk to WMS office and have your kid tested.

Seriously ventilation lady, get a life. No one wants to see your graphs and charts on this.

No one wants to hear whining from irrational losers like you.

Clearly you lack comprehension skills. Where in this post is whining?

Go start another chart. I'm sure AEM will eat it up.

More whining from irrational losers. No one wants to hear from you.

clearly, low-information staff refusing to get vaccinated and also refusing to mask/distance.

Yikes - are there a lot of MAGAs on staff there?

When there’s community spread, it’s not realistic to prevent covid from eventually entering the building. The goal is to prevent it from spreading when it makes it through the front door. Six staff at the same time suggests a failure of mitigation protocols. That may not be a reason to be afraid of sending your kid to this particular school following this particular outbreak, but it’s an issue APS needs to tackle immediately if we want our kids back in school 5 days a week. Hopefully the health department can help patch this sort of weakness. We know too much about how the virus spreads for this to be happening.

Yeah -- if these 6 staff members were not taking proper precautions among themselves to prevent each other from catching it, it seems like a stretch to assume that they WERE taking proper precautions, all the time, when they were around the kids. Remember that there may very well be covid positive kids at the school right now as a result of their exposure to the staff members, but those kids may be completely asymptomatic.

Yes. Because my kids are in school full time 5 days a week. I have all the time in the world.

Two new positive covid tests in students reported at Williamsburg Middle School this afternoon. In children attending Thursday/Friday. Frankly I think they should consider quarantining the whole school for 2 weeks.

How do you know about new cases today? I thought the dashboard was only updated every Monday?

I had to sit at a kid's game last week and listen to two middle school teachers agree they wouldn't get the second dose of their vaccine because they previously had covid and didn't want more chemicals in their bodies. I'm at a loss as to why two teachers are just now getting vaccinated, but both are with APS. We need to stop as a county assuming that our teachers have any more information or anymore risk aversion than the average person. They aren't super heroes. They are flawed like everyone else. And, in this case, bad, low-information, or just plain stupid decision making, is going to make others sick. Make the vaccine mandatory for APS teachers and staff, and then they can apply for an accommodation, be it religious or medical. We cannot trust all teachers who can be vaccinated to actually be vaccinated.

The dashboard links to both the student reports and the staff reports, and you can just open or refresh those reports any time you want to see whether they have been updated.

Great. Go back to school to learn some actual “science” and “data”.
