Fairfax City to DC is a painful commute. Hard pass.

It’s actually not that bad.

I went to Woodson and know many of the surrounding high schools. Lots of neighborhoods just outside the beltway have wonderful schools. Oakton, Woodson, Lake Braddock, West Springfield. You can get a nice house for that price range and lots of kids!

And you won’t be paying for the hype of Vienna, Great Falls or McLean

+1 unless the DC office is close to L'Enfant or Union Station and then I'd say Burke for the VRE.

Come join us in Burke! I’m in Burke Station Square right across from the VRE. Great schools, amazing community, houses around $700.

Not really. I can walk a few blocks to/from the station at either end, so no driving at all. I find it to be a very pleasant commute. Much more so than Metro, if you can make the schedule work.

Can't remember the name but there's a few neighborhoods around Robinson secondary school that were just nice when we were looking around for a house. I liked that it was walking distance from the school, several large pools, and also close to GMU. I wish I could remember then name- I recommend driving around Robinson Secondary neighborhood. DH did not want to live there because he thought the school was too large. In hindsight, that neighborhood would have been a better for us than Vienna.
