You are the fourth person telling of a reaction like that from Pfizer. I think it may be an allergy to sulfa or other ingredient in the vaccine. Others seem to have had it with Moderna.

A year and a half ago my hives got so bad they caused my heart to stop according to the cardiologist I was made to see ASAP. |
If we need further shots to deal with variants after a reaction like that, are we supposed to go ahead with them? Also, OP, please let us know what happened to your DH! |
| I’m sorry but I wasn’t sure what I would read about his massive trunk! Hope he feels better soon. |
When I had platelet related bruising not from the vaccine it was like little teeny red-brown dots. Smaller than freckles. I have a medium complexion so I am not sure what it would look like on someone with a darker complexion. |
| 2nd time I’ve heard of hives as a reaction. A neighbor also had hives after Pfizer. |
18:25 PP here. I have an allergy to sulfonamides but my rash from the Moderna vaccine was nothing like that. My hives from the sulfa reaction were hot and itchy and all over my body and took a week (plus prescription drugs) to clear, plus I had vomiting, palpitations, and shortness of breath. The Moderna rash was exactly the same faint chest rash that I've sometimes gotten randomly with the flu or colds. I know someone else who had the same reaction and called their doctor and was told it was some T-cell mediated response and would go away and not to worry. |
not hives |
| ER is the right call. The people I know who have had vaccine reactions have called their doctor and all have been sent to the ER to get checked. It's clearly an allergic reaction, and you don't want to be the one assessing how serious it is. |
OP here - thanks to everyone who was checking in on him (and LOL to the pp who was worried about his massive trunk, I'm sure he'll appreciate that
Anyway, he was afraid to take Benadryl or anything else because he didn't know what was going on and was worried more meds could compound it. We agreed if he got worse or had other symptoms he would go to a dr or the ER, but he is super germaphobic (even before covid) and hates going to those places, so he wanted to wait. Anyway, he woke up the next day completely fine. Not a bump or welt in sight, and felt fine too. I think next time we will try to get him J&J. Really interesting comments about the various ingredients that could have caused it, we will look into that. |
Yes, it's a commonly known side effect for many vaccines not just the Covid vaccine. |
Is sulfa in the vaccine? |
| It is a known side effect. My husband got them, took Benadryl per his doctor and they went away. It is not an allergic reaction. His immune system is in overdrive and this is not worrisome. Benadryl. |
NP. No. I have a sulfa allergy and took both doses of Pfizer with no problems. |
| My sister called. Apparently my father collapsed after returning home from his second vaccine. His blood pressure plummeted to a really low number (all over VAERS btw). He recovered but they are watching him carefully. |
