| We got our 2nd Pfizer shots on Thursday. Friday DH was down for the count with fever, chills, and fatigue, but felt better the next day. Today (Sunday) he woke up with massive hives all over his sides that are now spreading down his legs. He says they don't itch, but they look awful. He's never had allergies or an allergic reaction to anything previously. So what do y'all think, normal vaccine reaction or allergic? |
| I think you call your doctor and ask. |
| Vaccine reaction. Head to the ER before an infection sets in. |
|
I had Moderna and a dark, massive rash like that all over the lower half of my body and down my legs. It came a few days after the first shot and slowly faded, gone in about 3 days total.
Of course, call your doctor or go to urgent care if you are worried. |
| ^it didn’t itch but looked really terrible. |
How could infection set in? The vaccine has no live virus - just a piece of the spike part of the virus. OP, unless your DH is having difficulty breathing, ER strikes me as overkill. I’d do a telemedicine and show the doctor the hives. |
| Take pics, take Benadryl, call yr doctor. |
| Yes call dr but it is a sort of common side effect. |
NP here, I don't think PP meant covid infection, but that amount of raw skin makes him vulnerable to infections such as cellulitis. PP is right that an allergic reaction like that that continues to spread needs to be seen in person. |
Hives are not “raw skin”. What are you talking about? They are not abrasions. They are puffy areas of swelling, but the skin is not broken. |
| If he has an autoimmune issue, the vaccine can temporarily flare that. This happened to my wife |
| With Moderna I broke out in a full body rash within an hour of the second shot. Mildly itchy. Went away in 2 days. |
Spreading hives is common from The vaccine?? Every day is gets crazier |
|
If they don't itch, they are not "hives." Hives, or urticaria, involves the histamine response by definition.
There are other drug-related eruptions and rashes. |
| I would worry it’s blood clot related. Could they be light bruising? |
