You don’t need an ID to vote (and if you ask you are a terrible racist!!). But you DO need an ID to get your tickets to Disney world.
You can’t bring your own water or food into a baseball stadium. But if you ban free drinks and water outside a voting place - racist. |
This is such projection. Literally the last 20 cases of this happening over the past 15 years have ALL been GOP. There is absolutely no proof of voting abuse in recent elections. None. |
The point is not that some people "can't figure out" how to get an ID, the point is that in many places governments have specifically taken steps to make it more difficult for certain groups to get those IDs even if they know exactly how to get them. Steps like closing DMVs in black and hispanic neighborhoods so people there have to travel farther and take more time off work to get an ID. Then reducing funding for public transit so it takes even longer to get to the DMVs in white neighborhoods. Then reducing the hours of those DMVs so that people who live in those further away neighborhoods have to take time off work to get their IDs. Then blocking laws that require paid leave so that poor people can't afford to take enough time off to ride the crippled public transit to the further away white neighborhood to get their IDs during the reduced service hours. Then raising fees for IDs so even if they manage to get the time off and make it to the DMVs in the white neighborhoods on the crippled public transit during the reduced service hours a number of them decide they'd rather keep the money for necessities and not vote. |
Imagine being so incredibly stupid you don't understand the difference between a private, for-profit company enforcing its own rules on its own property that nobody has any right or need to be on and suppressing a constitutional right. |
This, its a non-drivers license ID. Even people "illegal" can get them. The issue is the cost and you can sometimes go to social services or other community agencies to get the money to pay for it. |
In MD, the DMV are not in the richer areas of town. Nice try though. |
No, but many are in areas that are extremely difficult, if not impossible to get to using push transportation. Map out for me please, the best way to get from Friendship Heights to Glen Burnie. For extra credit: same thing to any other DMV - BUT it has to be one that’s full service. If you feel compelled to sputter:” But Uber....”, then price that out round trip as well. Note also, that the DMV might still be appointment only, which means not a lot of flexibility if, say, the bus you have to transfer to is late. |
I’m sorry, are you seriously implying that the poor struggling population of FRIENDSHIP HEIGHTS has no access to the DMV and therefore can’t get an ID and get vaccinated?? The Friendship Heights that is 76% white and has a median HHI of $103K? Man the struggles they must face. 🙄 |
Imagine being so incredibly stupid you can't get an ID. |
|
Lol! Imagine being so stupid that even when you're anonymous people don't have to imagine how stupid you are because it's so readily apparent.m |
Why the difficulties of getting an ID have nothing to do with intelligence when you're a low income wage worker have been explained in detail several times in this thread. So are you too stupid to read, too stupid to comprehend, or both? Because it's one of the three and none of them are a good look. |
Cool, so if it's not happening in Maryland clearly it's not happening anywhere else! Sure is dark with your head under all that sand! Except it is happening in Maryland... It's not happening on the scale of many states where ID locations are being deliberately kneecapped specifically to prevent poor people from getting an ID, but it is still far more difficult for a poor person to get an ID simply because in the real world the DMV can't be everywhere at every time. But there's no better way to learn than to do, so let's do a fun experiment. Pretend you're a low income Marylander. You live at 8500 New Hampshire Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20903 and work at the Giant in Columbia Heights from 9am-5pm Monday through Friday. You can't afford childcare, but luckily a neighbor can watch your kid until 6 on weekdays, but you must be home by 6 because they have to go to their night shift job. On Saturdays from 9-5 you help your sister who has a cleaning business because you need the extra money. You can't afford to take time off from either of these jobs and you can't afford a car so you need to take public transit anywhere you go. Let's make it easy on you and say you are a legal immigrant and already have all the documents needed to get an ID. (which many people don't) Find me an appointment at the MD DMV for a new ID that doesn't require taking off time from work, doesn't require leaving your child alone, and can be reached via public transit in time. Good luck. |

Just want to note here that all other wealthy countries require ID for every little official activity. I often hear how unfair it is for some vulnerable populations in the US to get ID cards, but the logical thing to do is to facilitate access to a national identity card system (not a driver's license), instead of waiving the ID requirement, which enables all kinds of fraud. In other countries, people have to dig out their birth certificate and marriage certificates and all the rest of it, to get an ID. It's a bother, but necessary bother. Why not Americans? It seems to me both political parties could come to an agreement on this. |

I’m sorry but this example is ridiculous. By that logic they would also never be able to get their child to a doctor, so what do you suggest - abolish school medical requirements as well? The antivaxxers would love it!
Getting an ID is not something you need to do monthly/weekly. People can figure it out in the vast majority of life circumstances. |
