Wow. Ignorant much? |
Here we go. This is an issue in a lot of rural places. Have you ever been to the MS Delta? They don't exactly make it easy for the poor to gain IDs or anything else for that matter. In DC, MD, VA - I have no worries. In MS, AK and LA - I have lots of worries. |
There are more doctors than DMVs. There are more hospitals than DMVs. More of them, unlike DMVs are located near public transportation options. Many are open 24/7. These comments sound like they’re coming from a bot. |
While you’re noting this you should also note that, unlike the Republican Party, these countries are making it easier for people to vote in a variety of ways. They also make the process of obtaining ID more convenient. Note, too, that many countries are the size of a US state, and, unlike the US, have consistent rules and requirements through the entire country. As many people have said multiple times, while some people have issues with ID requirements in general, many more object to how the issue is being used to bolster voter disenfranchisement, and note that this is a difficult and expensive process mor some people to do — especially when there’s no good reason to do so. (No, I don’t view the paranoid ravings of people who mistake “entertainment “ for “news” as a good reason.) I stand of blithering on about what conveniently unspecified “other wealthy countries” do (yeah, I noted a complete lack of specifics here), why don’t you devote some space to suggesting some practical ways to address some very real problems? The Feds could guarantee every citizen two free copies of their birth certificate. Post Offices and public schools (the most convenient outlets I could think of) could offer monthly opportunities to obtain IDs. Underserved areas (yay MD!) could have access to an MVA bus. I’m not an ID supporter. If you are, than at least suggest something useful —- if you can. |
Pre-Covid, Friendship Heights received monthly service from a DMV bus — acknowledging the difficulty that many people in the area — might have accessing the DMV. You don’t have to be “poor” to have struggles accessing services. |
