Not sure why you’re comparing issues that have a huge disparate impact, particularly in communities with large rural areas to an area that’s entirely urban without being at least somewhat nuanced in your frothing at the mouth. Also, as many have said, elections and voting rights access are not the same as public health care initiatives. Your show of faux concern is duly noted though. |
| We have a friend on our block who is homeless and has no ID. He can go somewhere to get a print out of it but it’s a hassle and he’d rather work. I offered to register him but he’s waiting to go get his ID. It’s been a month since my offer, still no vaccine. |
Except you need an ID to work legally, so that's a no. Every state that has implemented Voter ID laws has been sued. Courts have mandated efforts to provide free IDs. And for those who are so worried about the poor who might have been outside the normal system... Mexico has a Voter ID law. I think we can probably handle the issues. |
He needs to go to Bread for the City. They will vaccinate him. They primarily work with homeless people, know the issues, and will be happy to provide him with a vaccine. |
Efforts to derail voter identification laws have nothing to do with ensuring voting rights. |
There's also a phone number you can call to pre-register. DC is also sending out teams of volunteers to help sign up people in underserved neighborhoods. |
Anyone can make an appointment and go to the dmv and get an ID. What’s the problem ? It’s a Little more difficult if you are not a citizen. Are these blacks you are referring to citizens? If not, they will have no trouble getting an ID . You must get yourself to the dmv though. The dmv doesn’t come to you. |
OP, do you realize how offensive it is to claim an entire race of people are somehow less able to navigate the process of obtaining an ID? |
NP here. Me thinks you don’t know much about the history and relationship between AAs and banks (and to some extent the Hispanic community as well). Do you honestly think everyone has a bank account?! |
OP, you are disgusting. you could not care less of AA people and whether they have access to vaccines of not. this is the usual "why we cannot change the law to require IDs to vote" while people need ID to buy alcohol and crap like that. no, there is no push to outlaw requirement at the state level requiring ID to vote, there is aa gigantic effort at the state level promoted by the GOP to introduce laws that would make difficult for people to vote (not just ID for people who have already showed them when they registered to vote), including dramatically reducing early voting days (Iowa cut 1/3 of early voting days), reducing voting hours on election day, dramatically limiting eligibility for mail voting/absentee voting, dramatically reducing the number of drop boxes, all things that have nothing to do with coting fraud but everything to do with making more difficult to vote, especially for poorer people and especially in dense urban areas. so, really GTH |
Then why oppose voter ID if ID’s are so easy to get? Why is showing proof of who you are the hill that dems are so determined to die on? It’s almost like dems want to enable situations where one person could go around voting all day long under other people’s name, or do the same with mail in ballots picked up in-person, in advance of an election. Explain how either of those scenarios isn’t possible. I’ll wait. |
Count up the number of times either of these things has actually happened. You can do it while you wait. |
We don’t know it’s happening if there’s no data, because there is no mechanism for it in the first place. |
Here’s some reading. To the rest of you, I apologize for the derail. https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/research-reports/resources-voter-fraud-claims |
| Surely people can figure out how to get an ID? If not, there is obviously some mental situation happening. |
