How long do you work out per day?

Anonymous
30-45 minutes a day is my main workout. A run, or HIT, or strength. One weekend day I usually run about 1.5 hours.

On top of that I walk about another 30-45 minutes a day, particularly in nice weather and daylight savings.

I also stretch or do some morning yoga, like 10-15 minutes.

It averages out to be an hour or so a day.

I also have young kids and WFH. I schedule out the main workout and then pepper in the walks and extra stuff when I find time throughout the day. That’s why I like daylight savings walks, after dinner is finished and cleaned up.

I have 3 kids and wake up at 6:30 to get everything ready for them, drop off to daycare, work from 9-5, pick up from daycare and don't get my last kid down for bed until 8:30 at night. I usually work out during lunch. 30 minutes is all I realistically have time for.

Pre-covid I might sneak a run in on the weekends. My mindset shifted, and now I'm giving myself an hour to work out 5 days a week. My kids are 9 and 5, and still doing virtual school, so my daughter does kindergarten in the same room where I work out. I'm hoping once they go back that I can stick with this. I won't be going back to work in an office any longer (I run my own biz, and my employees love remote work, so sticking with it). I'm sure this will have to shift again once they are back in school...but hoping I can stick with what I've got going now. It's really been great for my mental well-being!

I work out after my kids’ bedtime. So usually 8:40-9:40ish

I have an extremely demanding, inflexible job and two kids. I work out for minimum 1 hour every day, not including walking the dog 1-2 times per day. I get up about 90 minutes earlier than I need to in order to have time to get myself and the kids ready, walk the dog, and do a 30 minute morning workout. Then, I workout right after dinner for another 30 minutes, before walking the dog again. Kids are in ES. Basically, I make time and have very little other down time (for example, I watch essentially no TV at all).

In my case, my kids are all in school in-person and I work from home 100%. I used to be in your shoes too, it's tough.

PP who you are quoting - if your kids are in school and you are working from home 100% of the time when do you work out? While they are in school and you are suppose to be working? I am a manager and if I take off for an hour in the middle of the day to work I would come back to 40 emails and never catch up.

Kids start school at 7:45, I usually start working around 9 so I work out before I start. Shower over lunch.

I am an early bird and wake up at 5a to workout. DH has DCs morning duty and I do evening duty while he works out.

Who has 1.5+ hours a day to work out?
If you have kids or a job this seems impossible

50 min every day in the morning. 30 cardio and 20 min core strengthening and stretching.

I'm 48 and my kids are 19 and 23, so they are out of the house. I work from 9-5:30 in my home office (job does not demand extra hours most days) and have plenty of time for exercise in the evening.

If I had to get up early to fit it in, I would not do it.

2 kids WFH
30 min Peloton strength class 5 days/ week
Run 5 mi- 1x/week.

I got the peloton app (but no bike) and sometimes I do a 10 minute HIIT cardio, sometimes I do a 30 minute cardio plus 45 minute yoga or pilates strength. The only thing that matters is that I do it consistently. If I set the bar at 10 minutes, I will find many days I want to do more. After 2 months I've already noticed some changes in my body and I'm already stronger and I stand and sit straighter.

That's great that you can prioritize that during the only time you have for yourself. Sadly, I'd lose my mind. I need 8 hours of sleep or my depression creeps in and I feel physically terrible and foggy. That means no waking up early for me. And after dealing with my two kids all day, no way can I exercise at 8:30. I would basically never talk to my DH if I did that as he's in bed by 9:30.
So... now that I WFH, I sneak in short workouts during the day, but nothign too regimented.

Yeah this thread feels a lot like the threads on money and finance when someone asks the net worth of other 30 year olds and they are all like 2million plus!! Not a representative sample clearly...

I try to do a 30 minute workout 5 or so days a week after my toddler goes to bed (I'm pregnant so this is a strength plus yoga video) and try to go on a walk during the work day on days it's possible, but it isn't always with administration transitions. This seems pretty standard in my friend group though those not very pregnant like me might go for a run instead

That's fine pp - working out twice a day is not reasonable (or even necessary) for the vast majority of people and most of us like to both workout and have other leisure time (though great if it is what the pp enjoys!). It's okay to prioritize other things too like sleep, staving off depression, engaging with your spouse. These are all equally as good for your health. Don't let society let you think any different.
