I’m not sure what you say is accurate.

But if so, it makes me laugh.

I hope the schools won’t be able to buy their way out of this but I doubt it

I fully support prioritizing public school teachers

Wow, laughing at people risking their health to educate your children.

You’re a terrible human.

I don’t have kids in private school. My kids go to public. I could afford private, but I choose to support the public school system

You are voluntarily choosing to go in person and have been doing it all along. The priority is to get kids back to school who aren't in school.

Ridiculous!! They are volunteering just as much as the doctors and nurses and grocery store workers are volunteering to go back to work. They (or I should say we) go back to work because we feel it is our duty to do so. I'm a doctor and have had my 2 shots of Pfizer vaccine. Now I go into work less scared. Of course these teachers are also frontline workers, similar to the doctors and nurses and grocery store workers and restaurant workers. They are the heroes, taking a risk so kids can be in school, and not hiding behind their union and computer screen in the comfort of there home. They definitely deserve to be vaccinated before the DCPS teachers.

Teachers can work from home. Many are. Privates choose to open and they should not be a priority over others when they can do their job at home unlike others. They are not frontline workers. They are educators who in person serve as child care. In privates, child care for rich people. They priority should be getting public school kids back to school since privates already did. Privates have claimed it was safe all along so why is it different now?

DCPS wants to open asap..

Or like saying only 65+ residents of some Wards and not others could be vaccinated this past weekend? I agree that DC creating a "class" of vaccine candidates and then cherry picking within that class and pitting residents against each other should be grounds for a lawsuit. Also that any person/institution that has been willing to work live with children to date shoykd qualify. With that being said, I would like to urge anyone who lives in MD + VA (many teachers do) to get it from their state as soon as that becomes available, presuming they dont pull the same cynical stunt.

Don't most private school teachers live in MD or VA? Get your shots there. You're on the eligible list in those states.

VA teachers have to teach there, I believe.

This only applies to DCPS and charter school teachers returning for in person on 2/1.

It’s a very limited group of teachers even in DCPS!

Not true. Only have to be “a teacher” and live in VA.

I don't think this is true. The only way to sign up is by saying which district you work for. If you know how to do this, please share.

Maybe since the private schools have more space / ability to enforce rules "codes of conduct" the teachers are at less risk to start with and therefore should be prioritized lower?

Clearly the schools were able to figure out how to open up safely - probably with evidence that there was low spread - so what else do you need?

So many non- private school folks on this thread! Spewing nastiness.

Keep spewing. Private schools are leaps and bounds ahead and will continue to be so because the teachers actually show up and teach.

Private school teachers do deserve vaccines. It's political garbage to prevent them from doing so.

Makes sense. Public schools need to open first to serve disadvantaged students.

Then DC needs to work out a reciprocity agreement with VA. We are essentially vaccinating their residents??

Incorrect. It’s based on where you live. They ask for an ID to prove your residency.
