| that's the downside of living in an urban built-up area. Try moving to Manhattan and getting time on your precocious tennis courts. |
| Parent of the kid who plays both futsal and tennis fairly seriously here again. Another thing you need to consider is that at temperatures 40 degrees and below or so, tennis balls do not correctly bounce and you cannot play outdoors if you are a player who actually cares about the sport. In light of that, although it was unseasonably warm this weekend, I don't think that it was a generally inappropriate decision to give the space to Alexandria soccer to use for futsal for a block of weekends over the winter. |
Because you benefitted... And the club claims they are all about the community, such BS |
They are paying the city for the right to reserve use of the courts, so the money is going to "the public." If you are dissatisfied, take that up with the city. |

We are playing futsal in MD and are also using tennis courts with our company.
Get over it, covid has changed alot and we dont want our kids breathing covid indoors. |
So it’s OK to displace tennis players? Let’s keep putting up barriers to fitness so we can keep the obesity rate up. We poor folks are always getting screwed. Thanks |
DP. You do realize that all of your arguments about the need for tennis to maintain fitness apply equally to futsal, right? Also, the idea of the “poors” getting screwed out of their ability to play tennis, of all sports, is pretty funny. |
DP. I see your argument, but futsal benefits at the expense of tennis benefits is dumb. The tennis players should be allowed to play on the tennis courts and the soccer players can play on the empty soccer field. Everyone benefits... To your other comment, Poors will never have the opportunity to play tennis if the rich/entitled parents keep using their money to deprive access to the courts. It kind of feels like this whole futsal thing is designed to prevent anyone who isn’t paying a membership fee to some club from ever getting access to public resources. Quite frankly, this whole situation is a disgusting display of entitlement and economic discrimination. |
It's a handful of courts for 6-7 weeks in the middle of F-ing winter because indoor facilities aren't appropriate right now. Stop your belly aching and go for a jog or something. Unbelievable. Be happy that kids are finding an outlet since they aren't allowed to go to school. Just unbelievable. |
First, durable isn’t played on grass, so your suggestion is about as sensible as saying tennis players should play on the soccer fields. Second, these are extenuating circumstances where futsal cannot be played indoors as it usually would during the winter, so localities are trying to meet everyone’s needs. The tennis courts aren’t permanently shut down for futsal, it’s a few hours on weekends for a six week stretch when tennis courts tend to see little usage due to weather. Find another time to play for the next few weeks. Third, it is ridiculous bordering on offensive for you to suggest that the reason lower income people don’t play tennis is due to the anomaly of futsal being played on tennis courts during the covid-19 pandemic. Go waive your privilege flag a little higher. |
In addition, Futsal is similar to soccer but it isn't soccer. It's a different ball on a different surface, with slightly different lines and rules. Sure you can say, let the soccer players just go play soccer, but futsal isn't exactly soccer. You are asking the kids to just NOT play futsal or play a modified version of futsal. The reverse argument can be made just as well such as...you can go to a parking lot and play tennis using cones as boundaries and use a makeshift net. You can say that "we" could have done the same and used a parking lot instead of a tennis court, so the argument can go on and on. Facts are, they are public courts and someone went and got permits for them. Again, it's only temporary. |
So you would displace the 10-15 kids per court playing for two people to play tennis? |

Everyone talking about how it's all paid for... you will pay again when the tennis courts deteriorate faster from this inappropriate use. Tennis courts are surfaced for a particular use and this is not one of them. But thankfully not as bad as the people playing HOCKEY on them. Dear lord. |
| Blacktop with paint. Same as a b-ball court. Tennis is a dying sport. Convert all these to general purpose fenced in sport courts for futsal, volleyball, hockey, b-ball, and yes, even tennis (removable posts and net). |
Don’t forget pickleball! |
