What organization is behind this in Alexandria? Multiple weekends now, kids soccer games are hogging tennis courts all day (5+ hours). Most of the cars seem to have Maryland plates.
Don't do this, soccer parents. Find other means if your groups aren't reserving courts in an organized way. |
It’s Futsal, it’s a league, and it is properly signed and assigned. I imagine basketball players feel the same way when the kids normally play indoors during the winter, but they don’t whine about it online. There are four or five more weeks in front of you, so find some courts elsewhere. There are plenty if you need a winter fix and cannot play during the week. |
Great, but why aren't they using soccer fields, instead of tennis courts? Especially when there are empty soccer fields within eye-shot? |
It’s a different sport. It’s not soccer, it’s a five on fix game with a smaller court and it is played on hard surfaces. You could also play on outdoor basketball courts. |
You dont play futsal on grass. Its a more fast moving game than soccer, usually played inside in the winter. Its a different ball as well. |
| Futsal. Alexandria Soccer Association. |
Today was 45-50 degrees. Nobody was complaining when my kids have been on them in the 30 degree weather since early December. I’m sure OP won’t be complaining next weekend when the weather gets more seasonal/cold. It ends the end of February, you can have the courts back then. My kids play on courts in D.C. which also hosts Futsal. Some are designated Futsal courts, some converted tennis courts. |
OP here, the cold doesn't bother me one bit. I've never seen the kids play on the courts by us, and the crowds of parents - plus the hogging of parking in our usually quiet street - is obnoxious. I get that covid is going to turn people to go outside and we all need to share outside space, but taking over our quiet neighborhood all day with traffic jams of people, without any notice, is bad organizing. |
| Sir Im sure you can call the dept of recreation and pay for a permit. to use the tennis courts just like the soccer organizations do. If your approved and paid in full they will award you the permit for the court. Happy MLK Day to you tomorrow and enjoy the mild weather we are having. |
| I'm pretty sure it's just the city of Alexandria that does this. I don't think thatOther places in Fairfax county allow tenants courts to be used for anything other than tennis. If people sneak on that's one thing but for official rentals, I don't think you can do anything except for tennis on tennis courts in Fairfax county |
| excuse me sir your welcome to come join in with us for some fun futsal. Unlike you we welcome anyone. |
Because the tennis courts are always empty... |
|
I'd just like for the parents to not bring their giant 18-seater clown cars and hog up all the street parking, so that residents can do errands and don't have to walk 5 blocks to carry things back home.
Or at the very least, a heads up would be nice. |
| Very dangerous. My kid has a terrible scar from doing this. |
It's the Futsal League and It is an organized kids event. Our Club signed up a few months ago. Normally we play in indoor at schools' gyms....but guess what? Schools are closed! So they came up with the next best thing...Tennis Courts and Basketball courts all across the City of Alexandria. We live in Fairfax and it is kind of annoying going to Alexandria City where parking is SO tight and limited. Oh well! Here is the link in case you want to follow Futsal or make a complain. Good luck!
