Eat more protein. Aim for 20 g of protein a meal. The protein fills you up and stops the carb craving. You can still eat the carbs, but minimize the portion. Look into buying whey protein powder if you need to supplement. I mix it with greek yogurt w a splash of milk and put frozen fruit on top.
Also, I only buy my kids snacks that I won't eat. Sorry kids, but no pretzels for you because I can't control myself! |
| My dd (20) just started working with a dietician. She doesn’t count calories but can eat a certain amount of carbs, fats, protein etc per day. Carbs are her downfall so she really focused on those. Her dietician lets her eat unlimited vegetables so she makes sure she has vegetables with every meal. She is now realizing that roasted cauliflower will fill her up so she doesn’t need to eat as many carbs. She isn’t denying herself but doesn’t need as many carbs as before. She is losing slowly but is losing and hopefully developing good lifetime eating habits. |

You need to know your personality. Are you able to moderate or do you need to go cold turkey?
What I do now is have one meal a day with no carbs. Usually lunch - basically a ton of sautéed spinach with an egg and some parm for flavor. I usually have half a bagel for breakfast to satisfy my carb for the morning. I'll have one serving of carb and max out on the veggies and protein for dinner. Snacks include things like almonds, peanut butter on apple slices, yogurt, etc. I have one small sweet treat a day (e.g., one mochi ice cream). My drinks are unsweetened. I don't drink any alcohol. |
Go have another banana. The above is the most sensible thing that was posted here. Regular protein intake definitely helps with carb cravings. |
Go watch Jason Fung again, he really misses you! |
You are talking to the wrong person. The Fung person is as annoying as you. You are both nuts. |
| OP, substitute Banza pasta (made from chickpeas) for regular pasta . It is really close in taste/texture to traditional pasta, but higher protein and lower carb. You can do the same thing with rice by subbing right rice (made of veggies) or cauliflower rice. You shout also carb cycle for a couple of days each week - for example, on Wed and Thurs eat 50 net carbs or less, then normal on other days. This will deplete your glycogen stores so your body will burn more fat. |
OP here - really appreciate the advice and tips! I’ve written them down and am eating an apple with peanut butter as I type this, as my afternoon snack. Pretzel bag and cereal boxes remain closed in the pantry
A few other things - - I have tried the chickpea pasta but really didn’t like the aftertaste, even with a lot of tomato sauce - cauliflower hurts my stomach so the cauliflower rice doesn’t really work for me - I tried IF between 8pm-noon. I found I was starving in the mid to late morning, and then once the fast window ended I ate everything in sight - I love dark chocolate, so I like PP tip to eat a little of that for a snack. Will definitely try the seed crackers recommended too! |
Not OP but I find these grain substitutes to be unsatisfying and leave me hungry |
| You have to beat the craving before you get the craving by eating more veggies. |
| My doctor just told me to drink a big glass of water after you workout and you will not crave as many carbs. I am having the same problem with carbs and seems like i am ravenous after my workout. It might help you too |
| Just curious why you think you need to cut carbs, and not just cut down your calories? If you're eating above your maintenance calories you won't lose weight, even if you cut out carbs. |
DP. They are also not pasta! And taste terrible when you want pasta! Bean and garbanzo pasta taste... like mean and garbanzo beans! You can just put a bowl of beans of chic peas and put pasta sauce over it! It is cheaper and tastes the same! |
Fung is a practicing MD with a large private practice who has cured hundreds of type 2 diabetes. Just sayin. |
