Why can’t we at least get k-2 back to school? At least baby steps instead of giving up

Because despite the fact the numbers keep going up, lots of Arlington parents are being idiots and pretending like the virus went away.

He didn't say indefinitely. He said until after the new year. Let's not jump to conclusions.

Hey on a related note, if we are Level 3, have we missed the deadline to change our preference? I am hoping that that deadline has also been postponed with the other goalposts shifting, but I have long since lost track of whatever the date or stream of emails told me the deadline was. The most recent ones I can find don't say anything about Level 3.

Level 3 has not had their selection process open yet for the return this school year. You will have the chance to reselect when it is time.

Exactly. I can't tell you how many people I see out around Arlington with no mask on. I see kids on crowded playgrounds without masks and not being socially distant. I see sports games and practices going on with no masking or social distance, and groups of parents standing around chatting close together with no masks on. Are people in denial? We are in the middle of a frickin' pandemic, people. It's so frustrating. Schools can't reopen when the community exhibits this type of behavior. The rates won't go down enough.

Thanks so much, that's such a relief!

I hope they postpone level 3 selection til the rates stabilize. Hybrid selection will take a massive hit if they ask people to select now.

Your focus really needs to be on 2022. 2021 could see some kids in fall but 2022 spring is the wild card.

Yeah. The middle and high school kids two blocks down are always hanging out in huge maskless groups. The Halloween pics this weekend made it looks like 2019. Those are the parents, of course, who are complaining about DL.

Well, private schools are open and kids are doing well. At some point, we will need to move past the metrics of new cases and focus on how to co-exist with the virus for a while. Hospitalization rates are low. Those who won’t accept the risk should continue with DL, but give the rest of us a chance.

As you can see it literally isn’t up to any of us. The districts know what they can do safely and what risk they’ll assume. It is ENTIRELY in their hands. Not those willing to give it a shot, not those wanting DL, not teachers who have to do whatever they decide

Instead of comparing, go private? Can’t afford private? Too bad, so sad. I’m weary of hearing this complaint. Private is for profit. There is no way they’d close unless directed to.

Ugh. And this is why K-2 should have just been allowed to start in September.
