APS - level 2 - I don’t understand dashboard

How do you know your schools haven't done anything?

I was at my kids' school playground and I looked in some windows. THe classrooms that I saw are all set up for hybrid. Desks far apart, fewer of them, ect.

The numbers have been creeping up and based on the number of Halloween parties and the bar tours it's pretty clear what we are prioritizing around here. After the Halloween bump we will be moving right into the Thanksgiving bump and then the Christmas bump. Ugh.

Myra, they did this over the summer, and teachers went in over the last week to make the rooms neutral.

Yep. High school teacher here. Already telling students to temper their expectations of that January 21 target date. I don’t see how it happens because I too saw the Halloween driveway parties and know people will be getting together with families indoors for thanksgiving and Christmas. We absolutely refuse to take this seriously enough to really open schools it seems.

Yes, our principal said this as well, "APS has postponed the transition to hybrid for the students who have selected hybrid until further notice". I am grateful for the update from our principal, but why hasn't APS sent out an email stating the same?

I’m an elementary teacher and haven’t heard this from my school yet. I think they need to make the announcement and stop with the constant changes. For the record, I’m not team virtual until a vaccine- I just think we need to get past the holidays first!

Because I am friends with staff members.

At least the driveway parties were making an effort to curtail spread. My neighbors (in their 20s) had a fully indoor party after which they loudly trooped out to pile into Ubers to go somewhere else together. I can't say that I wouldn't do the same in their position as young, healthy people with no dependents but it is certainly a good way to spread Covid.

I'll be grateful if this is the message that comes from APS. Stop delaying by increments. Just say they're watching the metrics and are delaying until further notice. I mean, we all know this is the reality so just come out and say it.

We were a driveway party. It was only with people in our existing daycare and digital day camp pod. News flash--it is possible to gather safely if precautions are taken (just like all of the private schools locally are doing). Don't assume that any gathering of people is to blatantly disregard COVID risk. The three families in our driveway party all shares the same degree of exposure and didn't (and don't) expand beyond that circle.

And what I saw was about 30 people from the entire street gathered maskless around a fire pit. I’m not stupid, I can tell when a gathering is clearly a violation of decent protocol

Just had to clarify that not ALL driveway parties are held with blatant disregard for COVID risk, since the original statement painted them with such a broad generalization. Some people are tired of the very real Karen police making it an issue if they perceive you are not aligned with their COVID protocols.

hybrid is postponed indefinitely

I am so disappointed yet not surprised at all.

I have made the decision to pause Level 2, which we had projected to begin November 12....We will pause through the remainder of this calendar year.

Duran says hybrid is postponed at least until the end of the year -- I don't think he actually says indefinitely.

Hey on a related note, if we are Level 3, have we missed the deadline to change our preference? I am hoping that that deadline has also been postponed with the other goalposts shifting, but I have long since lost track of whatever the date or stream of emails told me the deadline was. The most recent ones I can find don't say anything about Level 3.
