People who exercise as soon as they wake up

Anonymous
I set out my clothes the night before. I get up, pop in a frozen waffle into the toaster, feed the dogs, eat my waffle with PB and hop on the bike.

I would rather sleep but the morning is the best time for exercise right now. My DH office and childs school space is in the same space as my bike and weight area. I have to get my exercise in before they are using that space or after they use that space, so the morning or the evening. I don't want to be working out in the afternoon because that is the best time to spend with my son. I do better with a regular routine so exercising in the morning some days and the afternoon for other days doesn't work. So the morning it is.

When the world returns to normal, I'll get up at 5:30. get ready to go to work, come home, and exercise before DS comes home from school.

I did this today! Woke up at 6, and decided to get up when normally I would cuddle with DH in bed and/or doink around on my phone. Was down at the apartment gym at 6:15 and finished up about an hour later. It felt like I was back in my 20's and had all the energy in the world. I'm in my early 40's now and although I don't sleep as deeply, I'm generally more tired than not.

I am a big coffee drinker but can't drink any of it immediately before working out, especially if I'm running. This means I'm somewhat groggy and moving slow when I first start my workout. It takes me about 5-10 minutes to warm up.

I don't prefer working out first thing in the morning, but during the week that's my only option. I wake up, immediately put on my workout gear, take the dog out and feed him, and then head to my basement to exercise. It only takes about 20 minutes from the time I wake up until I'm starting my workout. I have my coffee and a small breakfast after I'm done. On weekends, I usually exercise later in the morning or early afternoon once I've had breakfast and some coffee. That's my preferred time of day for exercising.

The key for me is getting to bed at a decent time during the week. I am a night owl and tend work late after the kids are in bed, but I need to be in bed by 10:30-11:00 if I have any chance of waking up early enough to work out.

I drink my caffeine, brush teeth, go to the Bathroom, put on light makeup (I don’t want ppl to leave me on the side of the road if I’m injured!), stretch and go. ~20 minutes for all that.

Makeup to go running? I have to admit, I don’t even brush my teeth til after I get back. Put a hat on over my bed head. That’s one of the perks—it really doesn’t matter how bad you look or smell because half the year it’s dark and even when it’s not, nobody cares at 6 am!

Lol - I know it’s absurd but It’s light out when I wake up and I see at least 5-10 ppl I know somewhere along my morning route.

Roll out of bed, pull on workout clothes, wash face/brush teeth, take a few sips of water, and go.

I am so jealous of all of you! I wake up at 6am and am downstairs by 6:15 to run or peloton but I have to pump first before I can go (baby is 7 months old). So I am out the door or in the peloton by 6:30 and need to be done by 7:00 so I can get the kids lunches made, breakfast made, etc. I have a sip of coffee before my run and then a real cup after my shower.

Yes, infant days were definitely harder, but you’ll be here soon enough. My youngest is 5 and I barely remember that phase. I think your partner should pick up breakfast/making lunches so you can enjoy your workout time without rushing back!

Haha pp here - I wish! My partner is usually up and logged into work by the time I get back from my run. So I am scrambling around home after working out to get 3 kids ready and out the door. Once I done with my workout from 7am until the kids are in bed at 9pm it’s total insanity in my life!

I am a SAHM of older kids. I do things in small segments of time. I have three blocks of time in the morning (from 15-45 minutes each) that I follow. If I can successfully do the three - my day goes well.

First 30-40 minutes.
-Wake up at first light or 6am. Whichever comes first.
- Do some stretches while lying down in the bed for 2-3 minutes.
- Sit up and drink a glass of water along with my thyroid meds.
-Brush my teeth. Put a tsp of coconut oil in my mouth to begin oil pulling.
- Go back to the bedroom and make my bed.
- Spit out the oil in trash. Use the bathroom. Take a quick shower. Get dressed,
- Pray for 2-3 minutes.

2nd session - 20 - 45 minutes
- Breathing exercise/yoga/meditation.

3rd session - 35 -50 minutes
- Eat oatmeal with fixing, a cup of lemon tea
- Start one load of laundry
- Pre-COVID I cooked morning breakfast and packed lunches but now I cook breakfast and put it in insulated dishes, and start on lunch and dinner.
