OP: My DC likes Wake Forest. What other schools are like Wake Forest?

Answer: Wake Forest is full of Southern People. DC doesn't really like it.

Answer to actual question:

Harder to get into: Emory

About the same: Tulane, University of Miami

Easier to get into: SMU, TCU, Baylor, Louisville

Louisville is literally one of the worst universities in the country. Not even close to any of the others you mention.

LOL there are 4K non-profit unis in this country and many (most?) of them have 95+% acceptable rates and less than 40% grad rates. I can guarantee Louisville is no where near the bottom!!

NP here. OP asked about schools that were comparable to Wake Forest. How is Louisville comparable to Wake Forest?

Wake: 8,000 students, suburban campus, avg SAT 1390, avg ACT 31, acceptance rate 29%
Louisville: 23,000 students, urban campus, avg SAT 1190, avg ACT 25, acceptance rate 70%

Louisville might not be the worst school, but it's certainly not in Wake's league.

192/4000=top 4.8% of schools in the US. You suck at Statistics.

Having lost on the "it doesn't belong on the list based on quality argument," you've shifted to the "it's not really the same!" argument. Guess what? NO university is exactly the same as WF because they aren't WF. These are options that DC can spend five minutes looking at on line and dismiss out of hand, if they wish.

Let me guess -- you're one of the "Emory is NOT elite!" posters from the WSJ article thread? Why don't you post something helpful to someone rather than just tearing down everyone else's suggestions? Are you like this in everyday life, or only on line?

What are you talking about? I'm supporting PPs argument that UL doesn't belong on the list based on quality, and ADDING that it's not a similar type school either. OP is interested in Wake and "comparable"/"similar" schools. UL is neither comparable nor similar. Not comparable in quality and not similar in type. Please stop with this. You're embarrassing yourself.

You suck at Reading. OP asked for "similar", "comparable" and schools "like Wake" and you're making a futile attempt to suggest Louisville. Which shows you either know very little about Louisville or very little about Wake.

Please, show me your argument for how Louisville is comparable or similar to Wake? With any data.

Off of the top of my head, I would say Richmond, Rochester, Lehigh, William & Mary.

Wake is probably more Greek-oriented and is in a Power 5 conference for athletics, unlike those schools. You'd have to look at stats to consider if they are actually less of a reach.

Perhaps Bucknell

+1 can be a shocker.

+100
Honestly, the first thing I noticed on our tour is that all the students and faculty were white and all the custodians, food service workers, and even the construction workers around campus were black. It was really uncomfortable coming from such a diverse area.

Because there are no POC in the food service and construction industry here? It must have been very shocking to see black people serving white people.

It’s 70% white and the races .From a glance it looks like all the students are white and all the service people are black. So yes there is a problem is it’s “blacks serving whites”, instead of workers, who happen to be black serving a diverse group of students. This is how prejudiced are learned.

this is common dynamic for the south, I expect the reactions of most of the students’ (and their parents) reactions to my brown kid would be to expect affirmative action or that he was on financial aid or some other stereotype.

Sadly that is the dynamic of a lot of southern schools.my kids are black, and I’m from the south; but Regardless of race, I wouldn’t sign up (let alone pay full price) for this lesson.

Agreed. Surprised at some of the schools suggested. Davidson, University of the South (Sewanee), college of Charleston, Furman. It is very southern and preppy. Great school if it’s the right fit.

We visited Wake, Furman, and Davidson, and Elon as safety for our two kids. Both kids ended up at W&M. Had a friend whose son transferred out of Wake after freshman year—too rich and preppy for him (and probably Southern). I was really pleasantly surprised and impressed by Furman, but I think it also has a reputation as a school for Southerm trust fund kids, so mine would not have fit in.

So, you’re not denying that you’re the one bashing Emory on the other thread?

And, btw, there’s more than one person disagreeing with you here. In fact, I think there are several.

How do your kids like W&M? Did they prefer to Wake/Davidson, etc. or was cost a factor?

I have a cousin that graduated from UL and now works for Amazon making big bucks but I know it’s not prestigious enough.
