If my DC is looking at Wake Forest, what are other similar schools?

+1 can be a shocker.

+100
Honestly, the first thing I noticed on our tour is that all the students and faculty were white and all the custodians, food service workers, and even the construction workers around campus were black. It was really uncomfortable coming from such a diverse area.

WDYM? That sounds pretty diverse.

I genuinely hope you’re kidding.

Typical DCUM thread --

OP: My DC likes Wake Forest. What other schools are like Wake Forest?

Answer: Wake Forest is full of Southern People. DC doesn't really like it.

Answer to actual question:

Harder to get into: Emory

About the same: Tulane, University of Miami

Easier to get into: SMU, TCU, Baylor, Louisville

Because there are no POC in the food service and construction industry here? It must have been very shocking to see black people serving white people.

Answer: Wake Forest is full of Southern People. DC doesn't really like it.

Answer to actual question:

Harder to get into: Emory

About the same: Tulane, University of Miami

Easier to get into: SMU, TCU, Baylor, Louisville

Louisville is literally one of the worst universities in the country. Not even close to any of the others you mention.

Also a typical DCUM response.

What about that list being a spectrum did you not get?

A spectrum that would waste OP's time. OP is asking for schools similar to Wake Forest. Wake is ranked the #27 national university, just behind Carnegie Mellon and Michigan, and just ahead of UVA, GA Tech and NYU.

Louisville is tied for #192 with Ball State and Misericorida, just behind UNC-Wilmington and Biola, and just ahead of Bellarmine and Bethel. Yes, those are their actual peer schools in the rankings.

Do you homework, girl, and admit you were wrong.

Ah, so you think OP’s child is too good to go there.

NP. There are approximately 2,500 four year colleges in the United States. A school ranked 192 is hardly “literally one of the worst universities in the country.” Do you [sic] homework, girl, and admit you were wrong.

Not wrong. Rankings are based, for the most part, on how hard schools are to get into, based on acceptance rates and average test scores. Unlike you, I was trying to be precise (and not to mention, kind) and used that measure ("harder to get into" vs. "easier to get into.") (WTH does "worst" mean?)

You probably don't realize that not everyone lives and dies by the USNWR rankings or whatever scale you're citing (it's impossible to know, since you don't give an actual source). My interpretation of OP's question is that DC wants to go to Wake Forest, but is looking for a school that was similar in atmosphere and culture to Wake Forest, as she was afraid she might not get into Wake Forest. So, I covered as many of the options as I could think of on a spectrum. It's up to OP's DC to do their research and make a call on whether they're looking for more reaches, matches, or safeties in the context of their overall application list.

Besides, FWIW, Niche's list of "Best Middle Sized Universities" in America had Louisville ranked in between the University of Vermont and Loyola University of Chicago. If you think those are "literally the worst Universities in the country" then you live in a very different reality than the rest of us.

NP here. OP asked about schools that were comparable to Wake Forest. How is Louisville comparable to Wake Forest?

Wake: 8,000 students, suburban campus, avg SAT 1390, avg ACT 31, acceptance rate 29%
Louisville: 23,000 students, urban campus, avg SAT 1190, avg ACT 25, acceptance rate 70%

Louisville might not be the worst school, but it's certainly not in Wake's league.

Having lost on the "it doesn't belong on the list based on quality argument," you've shifted to the "it's not really the same!" argument. Guess what? NO university is exactly the same as WF because they aren't WF. These are options that DC can spend five minutes looking at on line and dismiss out of hand, if they wish.

Let me guess -- you're one of the "Emory is NOT elite!" posters from the WSJ article thread? Why don't you post something helpful to someone rather than just tearing down everyone else's suggestions? Are you like this in everyday life, or only on line?

Let's revisit OP's question: "What schools might be less of a reach?"
