Thank you. Thankfully no one else has been here, and no one has even ask or insisted to visit except DH and his parents

Air out the house ASAP. And quarantine for 14 days.
Your dh is stupid. |
Asthmatic children are also high risk. |
Why was he tested? Was he exposed? Did he have symptoms? DH is a physician and our child has congenital heart disease. His hospital has been shut down and he doesn’t get tested. Our physician friends in nyc don’t get tested without symptoms. |
Do you have a cite for this? Not doubting, but curious. |
| Oh, wow, OP. No advice, but I'm really sorry. I'm definitely towards the slightly more relaxed side of things, but if I had a child with a heart condition and DH let a healthcare worker in the house - gosh, I would be beyond livid. Like, kick him out livid. So, you have my sympathy and here's hoping you all stay safe! |
He works for a healthcare agency that requires testing every so often. The entire city does it. Last test a few weeks ago was neg. this one is positive. No symptoms yet. |
All nursing home workers in Maryland, doctors, RN's, CNA's etc get mandatory testing every 2 weeks. Symptoms don't matter. Gov. Hogan is working hard to keep our senior residents safe. |
|
OP, I would be livid too. I'm sorry. What are people thinking? Ugh.
I'm taking zinc. There are some dubious studies that show ability to block coronavirus' receptors, plus it helps my skins, so I'm taking it. Certainly no magic bullet. You may want to gargle with a mild hydrogen peroxide solution such as the Oral b Mouth Sore rinse. Betadine (povidone iodine based) is also popular around the world but be careful if any of you have thyroid issues. http://ph.betadine.com/en/upper-respiratory-tract-infection-care/povidone-iodine-betadine-gargle-and-mouthwash Remember, asymptomatic transmission is thought to be rare. Children's National is one of the top 5 pediatric hospitals in the country. You have every chance of weathering this storm. Fingers crossed for your family. |
| PP again, I'd get your whole household tested now and again in 14 days if you don't develop symptoms. It's unlikely but possible that one of you gave it to your FIL if he has been a frequent visitor. |
+1. Even before the positive test, the grandfather knew he was exposed due to his line of work, and continued to visit the home of his medically fragile grandchild? Why in the world would he think this was a good idea?! |
Also diabetes Asthma |
So is the FIL. |
|
So sorry, OP. I would absolutely get tested, but your doctor might suggest waiting a few days as I believe it can take a few days into infection for a positive result to show up. In the meantime you all need to quarantine, and stop going out anywhere.
Try to remain calm. It might be a good time to start a movie marathon. |
Op I'm so sorry you are dealing with this But here are a few true things to provide some positive energy
Asymptomatic spread is possible but much less probable than if he were showing symptoms. There is also the concept related to viral load, meaning the people who are getting sicker are people who are exposed to a lot more of it. One thought is that people working in nursing homes and hospitals and being exposed much more are getting much sicker than people who have relatively minor exposures but still do get sick. Most kids, even with underlying conditions, are not getting super sick. (Asthma is actually not seen as particularly problematic apparently, as am aside as per our ped) Many people who get sick are asymptomatic or have relatively minor symptoms. As was previously mentioned, this is contagious but it is not as contagious as other things. We also don't know almost there lots of snuggling for example/close contacts/sharing a beverage or people were staying a little further apart. Wishing health for you and your whole family |
