Someone who was in my house yesterday just tested positive for COVID

Anonymous
I am a previous poster who complained that my DH kept letting his parents come over. He continued to do so. His dad just tested positive for COVID and his parents were in our home yesterday. I am freaking out. We have a high risk child. Obviously we need to self quarantine. Do we need to get tested? I cleaned after they left...

People are considered contagious up to two days prior to feeling ill. You need to quarantine as well as your family. Monitor for symptoms calll your child’s ped for guidance due to high risk.

Even if you caught it, it probably takes time for it to incubate. So, I wouldn't rush out and get tested yet as it's too early. I'm not a medical professional though. Don't panic. Eat some elderberry gummies and relax. Sanitize your whole house.

Out of curiosity, why was your FIL at your house yesterday and is then testing for covid today?

Did he wear a mask? How much of the house was he in? Did he touch your kids? Have they had baths since? How long was the visit?

Cleaning is irrelevant. The risk is from being in talking distance of them, due to the viral particles suspended in the air.

You need to strictly quarantine for 2 weeks. If you all have masks, wearing them could help protect your child. Getting tested right now is unlikely to show positive yet. Wait for symptoms or you can test in 2 weeks if still asymptomatic.

The less you can control your "freaking out," the better for your immune system. Stress and worry have direct physical consequences. Rest, get sleep, get some sunshine (at home or in your yard), try and relax as much as all of you can.

If it makes you feel any better, I have been exposed twice and DH once. Neither of us got it

He works in the healthcare field. I had no idea that he was tested (tested on Wednesday and just got results today). His last test a few weeks ago was apparently negative. I am just learning of all of this. I am not sure if my DH knew his dad was being tested.

If you saw my last post, I’ve been at odds with my DH on his parents coming over. Now we’re here. And I am beyond livid.

I hope he’s not involved in patient care if he’s that reckless with his own family.

You need to quarantine and get tested. You will probably be fine. This is contagious but not like measles. Exposure does not mean infection.

So it sounds like he was tested regularly as a precaution and is asymptomatic? All you can do is monitor yourself for any symptoms and try to relax and take good cate of yourself and your child. Definitely self-quarantine and talk to your doc about the best time to get a test.

Is your DH concerned or remorseful?
