Saw Marc Elrich the other day

I’m a lifelong Democrat and I agree.

Caution is one thing; establishing unattainable criteria for reopening is another.

First - did he have weight loss surgery? The guy looks like he's lost 100 lbs.

Second - he was NOT social distancing. Around people. Wearing a mask but not social distancing. And this is the County Executive who wants to go rogue and keep us under lockdown even though Hogan says we can open up.

Is Elrich trying to run for governor? Hence the weight loss? I don't understand his "go rogue" politics. Oppose the governor's recommendations to start opening up. Opposing the Council's recommendation to stop raising taxes. Just what kind of world does he live in? Does he think he is dictator of the County and that's supposed to get him somewhere?

Coordinating with the governor to meet data-based benchmarks for reopening is hardly going "rogue". I, for one, appreciate the measured data-focused approach. It also makes perfect sense for DC, NoVa, MoCo and PG to coordinate plans to re-open. If any one of them re-opens while the others don't, people from the other areas will flood the others -- and the results of that could be dire.

A "police state"? Did you come up with this analogy while you were driving between Best Buy and Target on your way to ride your bike outside? SMH It would be a lot easier to sympathize if people reigned in the hyperbole a teensy bit.

I sympathize with the people that were told this would last a couple of weeks and now it is more than 2 months mandated to stay home and there is no end in sight. I have had no need to go to either Best Buy or Target, though I did have to replace my keyboard at Micro Center after my son damaged it trying to do his incomprehensible remote learning math homework (thanks, MCPS). I am one of the lucky ones so far in that I have not yet lost my job (yet). Why can't you empathize with people that want to work to support their families instead of relying on the government's willingness and ability to dole out minimal unemployment benefits? By the way, I do not bike, since my bike is stuck in Delaware where I cannot go due to reciprocal 14 day quarantine requirements. Being told I cannot go out except to buy groceries and other items the state has deigned to declare are "essential" makes Montgomery County a police state. Being told by two different states that I cannot visit my own property in one of them means both MD and DE are police states (perhaps you haven't read about the Delaware police harassing people driving with out of state tags?). As a Democrat raised with the idea that American freedom is a value to be treasured and makes this country unique among the nations, I am deeply offended at these things, and most particularly with Marc Elrich's arrogant decision to keep Montgomery County under house arrest INDEFINITELY when much of the rest of the state is starting to open up. Governor Hogan's original action to shut down the state was at least arguably necessary. But in the light of factual evidence of where the pandemic is affecting people the most (easily identifiable and easy to isolate nursing homes and other long term care facilities and people with significant underlying health conditions), there was no need to continue the lockdown of Montgomery County instead of taking special precautions around our most vulnerable people. I would gladly pay more in tax to ensure that vulnerable people have access to good health care than tank the entire economy unnecessarily, and our children's education and future with it.

No, it doesn't. Really. It really, really, really doesn't. You are not under house arrest. Montgomery County is not a police state. There is no lockdown in Montgomery County. I understand that you're upset, and that you want to go to Delaware, and that you're upset about distance learning (most people are). But American freedom has never meant "I should get to do what I want to do" - at least not for most people.

So it's a good thing they haven't done that.

Also, nobody is running for re-election to the County Council this year. In Maryland, state and local elections are held every 4 years in the non-presidential years. The governor, state legislature, county executive, and county council were on the ballot in 2018 and will be on the ballot again in 2022.

NP here. Erlich and the council have not shared the key data for opening. It’s not transparent yet but plans in the works for that supposedly. They have known about Maryland metrics for weeks and yet they waited.

But as a data scientist you can triangulate some of the data published by the state. 90 percent of the deaths in Moco over last week (as of Wednesday when the state reports nursing home data) were due to nursing homes. That will have a tail for a few weeks. Ie cases in nursing homes will dominate our death statistics for weeks, potentially a month Last week, it was an increase in deaths percent due to nursing homes week on week. We can infer from the data that many of the - active - cases are in nursing homes. We can’t see hospitalization/ICU data and last Tuesday Gayles was quoted in bethesda beat that he didn’t know. But yet that is what they are opining on

No matter what the ordinary citizen does, we can’t stop the nursing home case to outcome trend that will occur over the next few weeks. It’s terrible public policy that let it occur to this magnitude

MD is not focused on case data since they retest hotspots and Nursing homes, but Erlich is Why? Especially when he lacks data

MD is backed by a committee of Hopkins doctors and transparent data, for Moco it’s Erlich and Gayles

What I’m really concerned about is the gap between Erlich and the state MD has had a nursing home plan for weeks. Erlich and council members are saying they now have a plan. What is the truth? This is also an issue in PG.

Note: There are many threads in health forum dissecting the data and plan by people with expertise

Wait, what? The county executive established government ownership of the means of production? When did that happen? I missed it!

I don’t care what his political affiliation is, he’s incompetent.

Can’t yet draw a bead on Gayles though...

Not only covid, there is an epidemic of Elrich Derangement (ED) going around. All these twitter trolls calling him a "fat communist" and saying that extending the stay at home order is "literally Stalin"

When Angela Alsobrooks and Muriel Bowser are doing exactly the same thing, as is Fairfax I'm pretty sure.

Marc Elrich is not Stalin.

Fine, Elrich is Brezhnev. Happy now?
