Kid got in off WL to an elite school but won’t go

OP if you are going to come on here and complain and be believable, at least state which colleges

A very real consideration here is which school is best equipped to handle the current crisis. College for the class if 2024 will be so different from what has come before.

If in fact this is Davidson vs Pomona, and you live locally, couldn't it also be that he might want to attend a school where he can drive instead of needing to fly across the country to get to it?

I can’t even understand what you wrote. Your kid is probably better equipped to make that decision than you.

Are you sure? Barnard is not an SLAC I don’t think. I’m an alum. Also in that thread, the DD accepted Barnard I think.

The OP has twins. The Barnard child is not the one OP is talking about in this thread, it is the boy twin.

Better yet, cut the cord.

There’s no top 15 with merit. Name one top-15 with merit.

At a merit college, the kid can be a big fish in a smaller pond. That can do wonders for confidence.

If it IS Davidson vs Pomona and your son prefers Davidson, you should be ecstatic because that means he cares more about community, character and personal connections over “prestige” and rankings. For ppl who connect with the Davidson culture, it’s an incredible experience.

OP, for now, it’s only Pomona vs. less prestigious college. What will you do when in the future, your son will have to make even more important decisions in his life, e.g. marrying a millionaire $usan vs. less rich, less “prestigious,” less “popular” Kathy?

Not that poster but is it possible you are just a jealous that her kids did well because they got acceptances at Barnard, and let's say for the sake of your argument, Pomona and Davidson (with merit). It certainly could be perceived that way.

If the kid got off the waitlist because he’s full pay, it’s not because he did well.

I will give the opposite advice. Similar situation with both college and law school and I thought I knew it all and chose the lower ranked schools. I have a great career but I have always had to explain myself in an elitist town. I wish my parents would have put their feet down.

I'm curious which top 15 SLAC isn't "elite".

Davidson is a top 15 SLAC that offers aid.
