Congrats to her! Is she happy? Which school is she leaning towards and what were her ACTs in the end?

Not sure at this point. She said last night I have a month to think about it. Lol. 32/33 superscore on ACT.

This makes a difference. What do her grades actually look like? Does she always get A's in certain subjects? Are the B's grouped in other certain subjects? Or does she randomly get As and Bs?

If she has a strong group of subjects and if she takes the most rigorous courses in that group, getting Bs in her weak subjects even if they are basically "on grade level" won't matter. If she applies to every top 50 SLAC she will get in somewhere.

If she culls through the top 50 for the 20 or 25 that she likes best (read DO NOT just apply to the top 20 or 25) making sure to have the same number in each group of 1-10/11-20/21-30, she will get in somewhere.

If she has a strong suit where she stands out, the schools will know she can do the work and if OP you can pay the bill, it will work out.

LOL top local private makes no difference. Colleges/universities have many applicants who with stronger stats from other private and public schools.

This is just not true. DD got into Amherst (four yrs ago, but still pretty recent) with a 3.68 gpa and nearly perfect test scores from top local private. She was top 15% of her class with the most rigorous coursework. No way would she have gotten in from a local public even with the same relative stats (aka grade weighting for aps, etc).

How on earth would you know that? Idiotic comment.

DP here with a kid at Amherst. That is NOT an idiotic comment. Amherst likes certain schools - the top local privates and the public magnets, and the only way a kid from a regular public school is getting in with those numbers is if they're a URM, recruited athlete or legacy.

But this kid almost certainly would have had better grades and a higher class ranking if they had gone to a public school. As the PP noted, there’s absolutely no way to know.

Congrats to her, and thanks for updating. Helpful to us with kids teeing up for next year.

In at Tulane as well and waiting on NYU. WL Barnard. Everything else of about 15 schools was a rejection.

Should add we were full pay. Rejected ED Emory. Did not ED 2. EA to Tulane was positive but Northeastern was deferral and eventual rejection. Very solid ECs.

congratulations. Sounds like she will have a wonderful experience!

She has some great choices - congratulations to her!

NYU just came back as a waitlist. She is not interested but I told her stay on. Down to Colby or William and Mary.

Great Choices! F NYU.

Colby is much smaller than W & M. W &M is a LAC, but not a SLAC (7000 vs 2000 at Colby).

W & M also has one big advantage (for us): In state tuition. DD (not OP) will be there next year.

Yep same for us...I am OP. We are in state. Not sure what to do. Sibling going to another top 15 SLAC. Sibling got merit but had much higher grades and got rejections and WL--WL at Georgetown, Cornell, Pomona, and Emory. Will take the merit. Makes it almost same as in state with merit. Would be thrilled between W&M and merit close to in state.

Have her reach out to alumni from her HS that go to Colby and W&M. Those conversations helped my DD a lot when she was making her decision.
