I cannot bear the thought of not going to the gym for two weeks or more

Op here. I can stay at home and avoid everywhere else. It’s the gym that gets me.

You really need to grow up. This is a very serious situation. People are dying.

OP, I feel you. I lift heavy -- with the kind of equipment we just can't fit into our home (barbells and safety racks that weigh hundreds and hundreds of pounds). It elevates my mood, keeps me fit, and most importantly, keeps me sane!

And I haven't gone for a week now. And I'm missing it tremendously. It's horrible.

But I don't want to carry this virus to my parents or my elderly neighbors. And so I'm going to look into some home workouts that I won't enjoy nearly so much, but at least will help me work my muscles a little bit.

In the meantime, I'm still paying my (boutique) gym, because I really really want it to still be around when this whole thing is over.

I like the NEOU on demand classes. There's a lot of variety.

Ok so go on walks/runs and order some free weights.

You poor thing op. People are dying left and right and you can’t go to gym... sigh, life ain’t fair is it?

Why are people shaming the OP? Is this not the diet and fitness forum?

Yes, but the forum is on DCUM so self righteous indignation is the default response to any post.

"I'm sad my cat died"

"How dare you. You were lucky to ever own it."

You are a self conscious loser

Who's dying? There has been 29 deaths (nursing home patients), and hundreds and hundreds probably thousands of US cases

Misery loves company. If you're not rocking back and forth clutching your purell and toilet paper after not leaving home for 2 days, how dare you go out and do anything that makes you feel happy and healthy?

The OP is just venting. Get off your high horses.

No need to shame, but it should be dawning on people at this point that one of the most effective responses to the pandemic requires voluntary collective action. Social distancing, especially when it comes to non-essential activities, isn’t a huge ask from the community. Its an ethical issue. It’s like the people who choose not to vaccinate because they’d just rather not, thereby placing unnecessary greater risk on immunocompromised people who are medically unable to vaccinate. So go to the gym and risk being part of the spread if you want, just recognize it could have consequences, that grow exponentially, for other people in the long run.

They’re not dedicated. They are financially dependent. They don’t want to be there and you shouldn’t be there.

Some are financially dependent. I know many instructors who sincerely don't do it for the (meager) paycheck, but because it helps keep their own fitness in check.

And I should absolutely be there. It's good for my psychical, and mental health. In addition to *helping* my immune system, blood pressure, etc.

You are an idiot. We have no idea how many people have corona virus because we're not testing. Hundreds or thousands of people in DC have it today. The virus can live in the air for 9 hours and on surfaces for 2-3 days.

I haven't missed lifting at the gym in 4 years, but I'm not going now. I can't imagine doing an exercise class with a room full of sweaty people breathing hard.
