I cannot bear the thought of not going to the gym for two weeks or more

Just go and wipe things down.

My advice: figure out how to work out at home, even if it means you have to plop your kids in front of a screen. It's important!

My favorite options online:
popsugarfitness - this one is an app, but you can also youtube stuff. They have loads and loads of workouts - some with weights, some without. If you give me an idea of the kinds of classes you like, I can suggest the ones I like.

fitnessblender.com - lots of people like this one; I find it not as challenging. Still, a good (and free) option.

other youtube stuff - there are some les mills classes on youtube that I like, I also like something called "At Home Cardio and Core", and the youtube fitness channel.

If this goes on, you can also sign up for beachbody.com - so many good instructors here!

Gaining weight has more to do with what you eat and how much you eat, not how much you work out. So just control your eating. Simple.

I am a gym regular, and a runner, and I was surprised by how much BBG (via the Sweat app) kicked my butt. Of the online classes it is by far the only one that really makes my heart rate rise.

I'm still going to the gym, as long as it's open. I'm not worried. Super grateful for my dedicated instructors!

KEep going to classes, just wipe down the weights that you plan to use, and wipe the mat. Chances are the classes will be less crowded than usual so that will help. I'm with you. The combo of quarantine, schools closing, and not exercising would make me want to go lick a corona virus swab just to put mysefl out of misery.

I am in the Philly burbs and all gyms will close for two weeks, and schools/daycares, and theaters. Local shops are closing too.

Chores OP.

There are web / tv based classes you can take. And you can take your kids on nature trails and have them run around like wild animals.

F off OP. You sound ridiculous.

They’re not dedicated. They are financially dependent. They don’t want to be there and you shouldn’t be there.

Some are financially dependent. I know many instructors who sincerely don't do it for the (meager) paycheck, but because it helps keep their own fitness in check.

And I should absolutely be there. It's good for my psychical, and mental health. In addition to *helping* my immune system, blood pressure, etc.

You suck, OP.

The zoo and the Smithsonian museums are closing. Why would gyms stay open?

Once exponential growth becomes visible, it will seem ludicrous that we were still debating whether to go to the gym at this point. We are apparently still holding on to the illusion of choice, but there are confirmed cases in the neighborhood and many things have therefore already been decided for us, we just can’t see it yet.

I have 2 gym memberships and a peloton. I feel you, OP. I suspended my memberships today. Why? I love, love, love exercise. And coronavirus, if it doesn't kill you, can do enormous damage to your lungs such as scarring. I really want to be able to exercise, really hard, the rest of my life. Going to the gym is too risky. I will run outside, use my weights, and get my class fix with my peloton.
