Thank you to all who responded in a helpful manner. I have a specific cake I'm trying to turn from sweet to savory, but I'm going to look up the suggestions and other recipe options posted when I get a chance and maybe give them a try. I'm not free to post the recipe here or I would. (I'm sure this will get the fur up on the cackling hyenas who have invaded over this thread.)

It can also refer to herby carbs. |
| Why not just make it with a less sweet sugar substitute? Like coconut sugar or something? I think the ratio for coconut sugar substitutions is 1:1. |

Regular cakes with creamed butter and sugar are never going to be savory. |
Was at a southern wedding in the fall. They had an assortment of mini Bundt cakes including several savory cakes with herbs or meat and cheeses. They were delicious and seemed to have the same texture. |
