It isn’t a priority because the DC Council has basically decriminalized fare evasion and quality of life offenses in Metro. The police feel that their hands are tied. It isn’t worth their careers to arrest or even cite some perps and have them play the race card on social media and in the press. Look for conditions in Metro to get progressively worse, particularly in the District.

I believe they legalized eating and drinking after their employee got caught on video eating and everyone freaked out about how sorry they felt for her? I remember when fawn hall got fined for eating a banana in metro during Iran-contra. The good old days!

Yep. I believe in paying for trips (fine with kids ride free, with city provided card-not jumping turnstyle). I dont think seats should be smeared with chic filet or customers slapped on back of head by teens who cant be tracked because they prefer not to use identifying card. I stopped riding metro in my early 30s, soon as I had more options. Happy to ride again when metro chooses to enforce rules and support metro transit police (and by extension, their law abiding customers).

There’s a simple answer when folks whine that those arrested are disproportionately from a certain demographic. Is the same demographic over-represented among those committing these offenses? It would be so much easier if people would simply follow the law.

What's any of that got to do with the fact that this incident wasn't a hate crime. It wasn't a crime period. You know what it was? It was an unfortunate aspect of public transportation. It's evident in every city. There's crazy people out here that say all kinds of crazy things and unfortunately they're not driving Benz's shouting to themselves...they're riding buses and trains. Get some noise cancelling earbuds or get some thicker skin.
