Hate crime on metro yesterday

Nobody in the media is covering it https://twitter.com/beakmanmallard/status/1198601704259883010?s=21

So a crazy starts yelling on the Metro. Happens all the time, OP. What, exactly, do you expect the media to "cover?"

P.S. It's not a "crime."

I’d like to see the Metro cops get much more aggressive - enforce the smoking and food and drink bans, as well as the anti-panhandling laws, and toss the yelling crazies off the system.

When I see panhandling in the Metro, I text metro police right away. They show up quickly as this activity is strictly illegal and left, unattended, leads to a lawless atmosphere where antisocial behavior increases.

On my ride home Friday, there was Chik-Fil-A strewn across four seats. It had to be intentional because even blatant indifference wouldn't have created that big of a mess. But considering all the other crap that happens on the line, I can understand why that isn't a priority.

Crazy guy yells on metro. Story at 11.

He doesn’t look like much. Why didn’t you just beat the sh*t of that idiot?

Words have weight, except when they don't.

it’s not disorderly conduct, arguably?

Not a story. Also not a hate crime.

It isn’t a priority because the DC Council has basically decriminalized fare evasion and quality of life offenses in Metro. The police feel that their hands are tied. It isn’t worth their careers to arrest or even cite some perps and have them play the race card on social media and in the press. Look for conditions in Metro to get progressively worse, particularly in the District.
