| I'm 5'2 and 43. I lost 30 pounds over the past 18 months, intentionally slow as it's a lifestyle change for me. First thing I did was tracking everything through myfitnesspal.com (free) and really focused on eating more healthy foods and upping water intake. Then I added in cardio 5x a week (gym at work). I'd like to lose a couple more pounds but I'm within healthy BMI range now. I've shifted from all cardio to a mix of cardio and weight training. I also really like the recipes on www.skinnytaste.com Made her fish Florentine for dinner and even my 2 & 5 year olds liked it. |
Thank you so much for the advice! Really appreciate it. I started tracking my calories already but don’t really like the app |

I’m 5’1 just lost 40 lbs. it took 8 months of very serious dieting - 1200 calories. I tend to eat more when I work out a ton so I did very moderate excercise (walking) which was ok at that calorie count or a little more.
I’m 40 - it was a lot easier when I was younger!! |
NP. What a rude and unhelpful response. You haven’t walked in OP’s shoes. Maybe her body doesn’t react well to the chemical environment and all of the plastics and antibiotics and garbage we are swimming in at all times. Not everything has to be someone’s fault. |
Thyroid issues are real. I had hyperthyroidism and lost 20 pounds in a few weeks. I had my thyroid killed off, so if my Synthroid dose is too low, I gain weight. When I went off birth control, I lost 15 pounds in 6 months. However, diet is normally the only way. I lost 25 pounds over a few months by cutting carbs, sugar, eating mostly vegetables and protein and avoiding drinking any calories. It wasn’t fun. I was hungry. I went to bed hungry. I looked great, but I was miserable. I loosened my diet up, accepted the 10 extra pounds, and I am much happier. Menopause really made maintaining my weight very difficult. |

Check out the ideal protein diet. I'm a much bigger person (and guy) but it works really well. |
They’re real but they are only the cause of unexplained weight issues for like 5-% of people. Most people gain weight because they’re eating too much. That’s it. |
Omg now a 23 year old has gained weight because of plastic? She’s 23. Her whole life has been lived around plastic. She eats too much! |

1. Get off the pill. Get a nonhornonal iud
2. Fit in some exercise. 3. Get over food. It’s just food 4. Cut back on carbs 5. Weigh yourself daily. If you’re not losing weight after a few days then make more drastic cuts |
+1 Amen Sister!! So many posts where people want to blame everything but diet for weight gain or inability to lose weight. i love the "I only eat 1000 cal a day and I'm gaining"- well guess what, you are fooling yourself if you really think you are only eating 900 cal/day. And yes, I lived in the denial for YEARS- had metabolism checked (it was fine), thyroid was high, but even once it was in a normal range with medication I still blamed my thyroid. Once I was honest and honestly tracked EVERYTHING that went into my mouth all of my "metabolism issues and hormonal" issues magically went away, go figure
|
| The other thing that no one has mentioned is that if you don’t get enough calories then your body goes into survival mode and reduces your metabolism bc it thinks you’re starving yourself. |
No, no it doesn't. Starvation mode is a myth. Metabolism will slow a little, but it it negligible and not eating enough it NOT the reason you can't lose weight. I have found that people who restrict too much can't lose weight because they restrict too much a few days a week and that causes then to over eat the other days or they do well on their diet M-F and use that as an excuse to overeat on the weekend. So in the end their calories even out and they maintain their weight. |
Because that’s false. It’s honestly nuts the stuff that gets spread around here about nutrition and fitness. Cut carbs, you can tone in 4 weeks, it’s probably a bad thyroid. No no no. |
but, I mean, if I'm not losing weight it must be because I'm not eating enough calories. I clearly need to eat more to lose weight
|
I eat 2700 calories a day, I bet my body is in starvation mode |
