I’ve been in denial about my weight

That is all to say - do what makes you feel good, try not to focus on the scale.

BS.

have you been tracking calories? Because I would bet money that if you did and stuck to a consistent calorie deficit you would lose weight.

OP here. I’m sure hormones are partly to blame. Other factors may include Cadbury mini eggs, Chipotle dinners, etc. I feel so unhealthy!

People still eat at Chipotle?

It can be done. I’ve dropped 35 since Christmas. I feel SO much better.

I’m back to eating the way I did when I was thin. No more candy bingeing or having chicken cheesesteak for lunch, etc. Hopefully I can continue in this vein. I also downloaded a weight tracker app (Happy Scale) that charts my weight loss and I’m weighing myself daily.

OP checking in again. I’m down a total of 8 pounds now. I’ve been exercising more and continuing to simply eat less. Tracking my weight with daily weigh ins has been motivating and has given me more willpower because I’m accountable to myself..

Nonsense that perimenopause is to blame. Women in other parts of the world dont get fat in midlife because they dont eat junk.

Umm, they certainly do.

Then life happened— major stressful personal issue, plus huge promotion/more responsibilities at work. Stopped any form of serious exercise and started eating badly. Now I’m 48. I knew I’d gained weight but was sort of avoiding the scale. Diets were always for “other people”— I was so naturally thin for my whole life that I just had this image of myself as thin. Despite my increasing pant size— went from size 4 a few years ago to 12 now.

Went to urgent care today for a sinus infection and they weighed me— 168! Plus my blood pressure is borderline.

I just can’t believe I’ve done this to myself. I know what I need to do to get healthy again. This is a vent more than anything but would also appreciate encouragement or tips from those who have BTDT. Thanks for listening.

Ok, are you me? I am 5'7", always enviably thin, even after three children. Major life stressors, age, all of the above definitely happened, but idk, between about 44 and 48 I somehow gained weight. At my top weight I was 165.

I tried giving up alcohol, tried cutting out my stupid chinese noodles I am addicted to (I swear they contain crack), etc. Nothing. And my husband can lose weight by seemingly thinking about it. I was so discouraged!

BUT I'm finally onto something. I have lost 16 lbs since the end of February. Bought a peloton and use it 5 times a week, and I'm doing IF and sometimes OMAD. I don't eat until the kids are home from school. Sometimes I can make it til dinner. I drink coffee or broth during the day, ride the peloton in the afternoon (staves off hunger even longer). I cannot even believe something is working. Today I did not eat until 5 pm, and I am barely hungry. I don't care or want to hear if people think it's unhealthy. My blood pressure is great and I am down two clothing sizes. If I can do it, you can do it.

+1. When I traveled to Italy 30 years ago I was struck by nearly every women of a certain age being “fat” (or in reality, normal for post-menopausal women).

Sophia Loren they were not.

Staying thin when you're older is harder than when you're young. No brainer. Don't use that as an excuse though.

Dude I eat right, work out every day and am 159 at 5'4". What a depressing thread. You aren't fat. Maybe not in shape, but you aren't fat.

Hi op, I’m the Op of this thread and I’m surprised at myself also! I’m 36, though. But my thread is full of encouragement and good ideas!

Most people gain weight because they don’t weigh themselves daily. If you just weigh yourself and write daily lb, you will see that your mind and body will become conscious and you will start to avoid evening snacks.

Your post is clear that you gained a lot of weight because of promotion. Use that money to load up on fancy salad and pure fruit juice when possible.

Hormones are different for everyone. I went from 136 lbs to 128 lbs just by switching my birth control - no change in diet or exercise. It was all blooooooooating.
