Potential Holding Centers for Northwood

I do. The facility had been one of the main drawbacks to Northwood when we did the DCC open houses a couple years ago.

My DC was choosing a HS the year the Wheaton building was due to open, it was definitely on student's minds. When my younger DC was at the same point three years later, we were told the popularity of Wheaton was way up, and the energy at the open house would support that. I'd think the same will happen for Northwood, especially since their MCC program will be reaching maturity, too.

Nice! I think so too

Google Maps says 16-24 in the morning and 18-35 in the afternoon.

That might be true for a car but school buses are another matter. My kid takes the bus from school to their daycare which is under 1 mile. It takes the bus 40 minutes from the time school gets out to when it drops off on any given day. It's faster to walk.

I thought the holding centers came into play off school hours for northwood students

There's something wrong with your child's bus then. My child's birthday school gets out at 3:25 and is home by 3:45. Our ES is 5 miles away. Maybe your child's bus arrives late to the school or something.

I am confused about the Route Analysis.

1. According to slide 7, there are 17 bus routes. But the analysis in page 12 has 16 routes analyzed for each potential holding center location.

2. Why is Northwood included in page 12? And how can existing bus routes to Northwood arrive later than bell time (11 within 20 minutes, and 2 later than 20 minutes) ? (I assume page 12 is analyzing arrival time at the potential holding center location if there is no change in the schedule of the routes except for the final destination.)

Obviously, I am completely missing something. Can someone explain? Thanks!

Thanks for posting this. Adventist would need to be built out, I assume? Would MCPS retain any equity in that investment?

I'm not kidding it's 40 minutes for under 1 mile. That I can walk in 15.

It was a little hard to follow at the meeting too. The head of transportation was saying how the computer simulator sometimes predicts a bus taking longer than it actually does. I'm not sure about the 17 vs. 16 routes. His main point seemed to be that none of the sites were particularly better or worse overall from a transportation perspective, but that some students could have much longer or shorter rides depending on which site was chosen.

Yes, you'd have to multiply the Google maps time by 2-3 to get a realistic number.

In other words, your child arrives at daycare 40 minutes after school lets out - not that the actual bus trip is 40 minutes.

If they're willing to bus these kids halfway around the county, then the forthcoming diversity busing should be easier than people think.

There is no forthcoming "diversity busing".

What's your solution for the Northwood HS during construction?

diversity busing pilot program

I'd rather see a snowflake busing program. They would melt as soon as they hit the road
