Are you in Canada? Not even a little bit acceptable for a school in the US. |
| Can you imagine if the genders were reversed? There would surely be an uproar if the fathers on the field trip showered naked in front of the boys in the class. |
Really? I don’t think it’s a big deal either way. Regardless of whether this is a troll thread or not, I am shocked everyone thinks this is such a big deal. Nudity at this age is nbd and totally non sexual unless you make it so. Why should these girls should feel inhibited or uncomfortable with nudity at such a young age? This is totally nuts to me. |
Thank you! That was my thought exactly. |
I don't think this is a huge deal, but let's not pretend there weren't easy ways for the adults to be far more covered. They could have changed in a stall. They could have discretely changed by a locker that would, at most provide a momentary glimpse of them partially naked. Either is very different than taking a five minute shower in a communal area. |
Says the non parent troll. |
Nudity is nonsexual at that age, but I disagree that most kids would think it was nbd, unlike what they probably would at 5 or 6. Plenty of kids are self-conscious at that age and I would be surprised that so may casually and willingly took a communal shower. |
It isn't about prudeness. It is about the appearance of impropriety. A teacher with any sense would know that this would be a perfect set up for an abuse allegation. |
With two other parents there, I could see how a teacher might be a little less concerned about this, whether wisely or not. |
| What is a state funded semi private school??? |
Sandusky? Penn State? Ring any bells for you? |
No idea. Never heard of such a thing around here. |

I teach in MCPS. Let's say we had a field trip that involved swimming. It doesn't happen, but let's say it did. First of all, the chances that I'd be in a bathing suit at all are slim to none. If I was in a bathing suit, I'd have a modest cover up over it and wouldn't get in the pool as long as lifeguards were present. Even without lifeguards present I'd be better off out of the pool to be able to scan the whole pool.
But let's say for argument's sake that I did get in the pool. When I would get out of the pool I would be immediately covered in a towel and then put my cover up back on as soon as I wasn't soaking wet anymore. If I was in the locker room, I'd tell all the kids to rinse off while wearing their bathing suits. I'd stand in an area of the locker room where I could hear everything that was going on, but wouldn't be looking directly at the kids changing. I would remind parent volunteers to make sure they change in an individual stall and definitely would stop them from showering in the nude. I would be comfortable overseeing none of this, considering any amount of nudity while on the job is inappropriate in my eyes. So therefore a pool field trip would not be something I would agree to attend and oversee. But for argument's sake, this is how I would handle it. I would also make sure I wasn't the only school employee in the locker room. For the record, I'm not a prude at all. I'm fine with nudity. But not on a school trip. There is no place for that on a school trip. So in my eyes there were several adults there that day that made really poor choices, including OP. And I'd seriously question the teacher's judgement that she thought showering nude in front of children she teaches is acceptable in any way. And that she took the parent volunteer's word that it was fine. What the hell was she thinking? |
We call them charters. |
NP here, it's usually used to describe a private school where the majority of students are on vouchers. |
