| The father is just mad he didn't witness the young teacher having a shower. |
Exactly this. And if there is a skin sensitivity concern, a quick rinse while in a swimsuit would be the way to go. I taught this age group and I can't imagine stripping and showering in front of students. |
| I have a hard time believing this is real. My kids freak out if they see their teacher in the grocery store. Who would think it's okay to shower naked in front of their class? |
| This thread is fake. |
I also have trouble believing the vast majority of 3rd graders were willing to shower nude with classmates instead of staying in suits. |
You don't need to shower. You can just put on your regular clothes in a changing room. |
| All the adults were wrong. I would have told the kids to shower with their suits on too just to make sure everyone felt comfortable. Changing your clothes can be done very discreetly if a person chooses. I would assume this will be the last pool party at that school if anyone goes to the administration. |
I am a teacher who has take many school/camp groups swimming in my career. I have been able to avoid being naked in front of students on every trip. And other than the summers when I had pre-K campers, or students with significant disabilities who need physical assistance, I have also managed not to see a kid naked. |

OP, I’m sorry. This is a complicated situation you’re in the middle of.
Yes, in a typical locker room situation, it’s nbd for non-related adults to change in front of children, especially if there are multiple adults around, which makes the situation safer. However, in a professional situation in the States, we expect not to see people undressed. So teachers (and camp counselors for that matter) usually aren’t undressed in front of anyone they work with, regardless of age. I can undeestand a parent raising an eyebrow, though I don’t understand why it’s worth getting upset over. I can also understand why all involved might feel awkwardly. You did your best to make a real-time decision and you didn’t read the entirety of the context. |
OP here. We don't live in DC, We are in the US, however. Maybe things are more conservative where you are? I don't see there being any issues with this being the US. |
| No way as a parent I would allow my child to do that as I wouldn't trust other parents with that many kids in a pool. No one should have been nude and they should have skipped the showers and just gotten dressed. |

I am a father of a 3rd grade DD and I would not want my child to be naked in front of her classmates. I would not want her to see other grown women naked either, including her teacher. I would not be "angry" about it but I would be very disappointed in the teacher and the chaperones and would not trust them to go on another field trip.
OP, do you attend a private school? I don't see any public elementary school allowing this to happen in America. |
I need to make it clear in case you missed it in my original post, the girls who showered in the nude did so by their own choosing. I would completely agree that it would be totally inappropriate for anyone to make the children shower in the nude against their will. My two oldest sisters were in junior high and high school during a time when students were forced to shower in gym class in front of other students whether they wanted to or not, and I remember them complaining about it to our mom. Our local schools did away with that showering rule by the time that my other sister and I were in junior high. As for my daughters school, it is a mostly state funded semi-private school. Not fancy by any means. Only costs my husband and I a couple of hundred dollars a year. |
As I mentioned in one of my other posts, the girls that showered nude, did so by choice. I agree that no-one should ever be forced to be nude if they don't choose to be! If you have an issue with them being told to shower off even when they were allowed to do so in a swimsuit, then I totally disagree in every way? |
What country are you from OP?!? This is a HUGE issue and exceptionally poor judgement by the female adults on the trip, but especially the teacher. |
