Dash Cam? (Almost ran off road tonight)

That's why you don't DRIVE in the left lane. You know, the PASSING lane.

If you were doing 75 and in sync with the big trucks beside of you, then there was no reason for you to need to pass them. You could have stayed behind them at the speed limit or at 70 mph.

Once in the left lane, again, the passing lane, you've made the commitment to pass the cars in the right lane, so you must do that. Not just drive there 10 over the speed limit. If you must go 15 or 20 mph over the speed limit to do this, you've made an error in judgement and didn't actually need to pass the cars in that lane.

Most people around here can't drive for shi!t. No idea what a passing lane is... don't understand how to merge properly... cannot correctly navigate a traffic circle...

I have tried explaining this to so many people, and they all think I'm full of shit. The left lane is NOT for cruising, it's for passing. Having said that, OP did explain how she was blocked by trucks to her right - so she wasn't able to move to the right. something similar happened to me a few years ago right at the 495/270 interchange, driving south. a Holton "dad" in his frustrated Mercedes wagon tried running me off the road into the median because I wasn't going fast enough for him. I was in the passing lane, using it correctly. Person in front of me was going too slow. Holton dad came up out of nowhere. Saw that same Holton dad again that following weekend, speeding through the Wildwood shopping center parking lot.

I know VA has started issuing more tickets for driving in the passing lane but I wish they'd give out more.

op here- dear god...some of you are lunatics.

Let me explain better-

I was in the left lane going 75 as there was a line of slow traffic in the right lane so I was in the left lane, passing them all. When the assh*** zoomed up behind me, coming up on my ass and flashing his lights at me, I couldn’t move over as there were two trucks next to me (with a bunch of cars behind them) and another car about 2-4 car lengths in front of me. I kept driving to pass the trucks and as soon as I got past them, I was going to move over but the asshole driver went whipping around me, half in my lane, coming 2 inches from the side of my car and then cut me off so sharply that I had to swerve into the median to avoid us colliding. He then went speeding off, zoomed around the person in front of me and then back in front of them and took off. Luckily I was able to safely swerve into median and back onto road. One of the trucks actually blared their horn at the guy and when I got back into the lane, one of the big trucks was next to me again and mouthed “you good?” Or something like that. I then called 911 and that was that.

So sorry but I did nothing wrong here. I wasn’t taking up the left lane like a jerk. If I could have moved over to avoid the prick, I would have.

Anonymous wrote:OP not today you deserve this but maybe you are better off interesting in a defensive driving class. If someone is crazy and pulls up along you, you slow down and let them pass. Hit your brakes or at the very least take your foot off the gas. Their acceleration and your unexpected deccelaration would let them pass you and move on. Swerving into the median and crashing would have been horrible but you didn't have to react this way.

She said she was in the passing lane and got over as soon as she could. Then the car passed her, and ran her off the road. She was defensive driving.

No. Defensive driving would be to slow down when the other person, who OP already knows is unhinged with anger issues, can pass her so the other driver does not get an opportunity to try to sideswipe her. Defensive driving is not almost going off the road or hitting the median.

OP here- slow down? There was no Way that I was going to slow down. When I say he was on my ass...I’m not joking. If I had braked, he’d have hit me so fast. The dude was so close to the back of my car, I could clearly see his face...

No OP, I mean slow down after you got into the other lane and out of his way. Then he would not have been able to almost sideswipe you. You have to outwit that dimwit.

...and based on additional input here, I'm convinced OP isn't that good of a driver

If it makes you feel better, go for it...but don’t do it because you think it will mean the guy is punished in some way.

OP's lack of self-awareness is pretty stunning.

"I'm not wrong, the 10 other strangers who read my story and disagree with me are just crazy!"

+1. I got my camera because people lie about what actually happens during fender-benders. I was in one accident where the person backed into me and the other I was sideswiped by someone trying to enter my lane. Both drivers lied to the insurance company. If I had video of these incidents I would not have had to pay the deductible.

Once that happened to me I also now stop if I see an accident occur and make it known I am willing to give a statement. I saved one guy from having to pay the deductible.

Actually if you catch something like that on camera and have the license plate on camera and bring it to the cops, they will go after the person.

OP here- lol cause I said some of you are lunatics? lol okay! Sorry, but there was nothing else I could possibly have done in the situation. Sounds like you are someone who would also be aggressive and act the way the crazy prick did.

I’m the pp and a prosecutor. I can assure you that’s not true.

Just let them hit you. Really. No joke. I mean this.

It's easier this way. Then you get to make a hobby out of them.

For the 20 seconds they spent trying to force you off the road, you know get to spend the next year or two (or more) harassing them in the court system.

This is what I did.
