Dash Cam? (Almost ran off road tonight)

Or you can move your dumb %*& over to the right lane which is the law for slower moving traffic.

Hit your brakes or at the very least take your foot off the gas. Their acceleration and your unexpected deccelaration would let them pass you and move on. Swerving into the median and crashing would have been horrible but you didn't have to react this way.

This was my first thought. OP, you never, ever antagonize someone that wants to pass you. You are being an aggressive driver, in most states, and would be at fault for the ramifications that followed. Learn when to say when, and let it go. You are not the police, you do not police the roads. In many states, it is illegal to travel in the left lane, left lane is for passing ONLY.

She said she was in the passing lane and got over as soon as she could. Then the car passed her, and ran her off the road. She was defensive driving.

No. Defensive driving would be to slow down when the other person, who OP already knows is unhinged with anger issues, can pass her so the other driver does not get an opportunity to try to sideswipe her. Defensive driving is not almost going off the road or hitting the median.

OP here- slow down? There was no Way that I was going to slow down. When I say he was on my ass...I’m not joking. If I had braked, he’d have hit me so fast. The dude was so close to the back of my car, I could clearly see his face...

OP, you were in the wrong, and you could have killed someone. If the other driving is speeding, let them. You are not the police.

Unfortunately for you the law is not on your side. Left lane is for passing only, passing on the right is illegal. As a result you cannot dictate others speed and take the position that this is as fast as I’m going to drive so just go around me. You do you, just not in the left lane.

NP. Sounds like PP IS dictating the left lane speed by going 70mph in a 55mph lane... and how exactly do you enforce that law anyway. "But officer, I wanted to drive 80mph in the 55mph lane and this a-hole was only driving 70mph." Good luck with that.

That’s the point, it’s up to the police to enforce the speed limit not vigilantes who piss off crazy people and then cry about it on DCUM. Unless you are PASSING you cannot hangout in the left lane. It’s not a suggestion, has nothing to do with speed limit, and you don’t get to choose which laws you follow. Either obey them all (no speeding, no camping out in left lane) or don’t but don’t complain about pissing people off.

OP, you could have ten traffic cameras, and I hope you do - because it will show your aggressive driving.

OP here: did you not read any of posts? WHERE did I say I antagonized them? How the hell do you even come up with that? Please explain!!

Because I literally tried to move over the SECOND I could but the asshole went whipping around me first. So what exactly did I do wrong? Please enlighten me.

NP. OP, I think the problem people have is that it doesn't sound like you moved over the SECOND you possibly could have, because you were still in the passing lane when the car driving behind you on the highway managed to pass you on the right. It doesn't sound safe how he did it, but the fact that the car driving pretty fast behind you was able to get along side you without you even putting on your indicator light to show that you understand you're not supposed to stay in the passing lane is not good.

My guess, like others, based on your OP is that because you were doing "70 or 75" then you felt you had a right to be in the lane, period. Like, if you're speeding then you're good. Which isn't the case. You sound a bit entitled when you say things like that.

If you were doing 75 and in sync with the big trucks beside of you, then there was no reason for you to need to pass them. You could have stayed behind them at the speed limit or at 70 mph.

Once in the left lane, again, the passing lane, you've made the commitment to pass the cars in the right lane, so you must do that. Not just drive there 10 over the speed limit. If you must go 15 or 20 mph over the speed limit to do this, you've made an error in judgement and didn't actually need to pass the cars in that lane.

Most people around here can't drive for shi!t. No idea what a passing lane is... don't understand how to merge properly... cannot correctly navigate a traffic circle...

I have tried explaining this to so many people, and they all think I'm full of shit. The left lane is NOT for cruising, it's for passing. Having said that, OP did explain how she was blocked by trucks to her right - so she wasn't able to move to the right. something similar happened to me a few years ago right at the 495/270 interchange, driving south. a Holton "dad" in his frustrated Mercedes wagon tried running me off the road into the median because I wasn't going fast enough for him. I was in the passing lane, using it correctly. Person in front of me was going too slow. Holton dad came up out of nowhere. Saw that same Holton dad again that following weekend, speeding through the Wildwood shopping center parking lot.

Women seem to have a harder time understanding this than men.

Ask any cop - they will tell you. As drivers, we are expected to cooperate with each other, not make a situation worse or "amp up"/escalate a situation on the road. It is your responsibility to be a careful driver, not to p*ss other people off.

OP here- nope. The second I could have moved over, he went zooming up next to me to pass me. If I had merged over when I was about to, he would have slammed into me because the second I got past the trucks (going 75+), he came speeding next to me...almost slamming right into me.

Anyways, I’m done arguing this. The whole point of my post was about dash cams, not me explaining the situation 500 times. Ordered one on amazon this afternoon for $99.99 so all good.

Question: how would your front or back cams pick up a side swipe scenario?

The video showed the car coming in from the side and you could see our car bump from the impact. The actual moment of impact was not caught on camera because it was a side hit. However, it told the adjuster everything they needed to know.

+1. I got my camera because people lie about what actually happens during fender-benders. I was in one accident where the person backed into me and the other I was sideswiped by someone trying to enter my lane. Both drivers lied to the insurance company. If I had video of these incidents I would not have had to pay the deductible.

Once that happened to me I also now stop if I see an accident occur and make it known I am willing to give a statement. I saved one guy from having to pay the deductible.

PP here - when our sideswipe accident happened, the woman apologized but then lied to her insurance company that she hit us. Video saves a lot of heartache.

Dude...nope. It it was the second you can move over then you would have been over there and he couldn't have gone around you. But, obviously you are such a bad driver you have to have several car lengths free before you move back. Which is fine when the road isn't crowded. You would have annoyed me too.
