20 dead in upstate NY in limo accident

I feel like it's shocking that not one of 18 people in the limo survived. I've seen pictures of the limo - it looks largely intact.

I thought that was odd too. I know they weren't in seatbelts and so they were tossed around but you would think someone would survive - at least initially.

Agreed, but I think I read that the limo was going 60+ mph..hate to be graphic, but at that speed I would guess people would be thrown and hit their heads pretty violently.

I thought I read someone was transferred to a hospital in Albany. Wouldn't that indicate survival initially?

4 sisters and their spouses were in the limo. So awful.

Yes, it would. I hadn’t read that anywhere, but I’ve only read a couple articles about it.

How does it do any good to be told something once when you're 15 or 16 and then never actually do it? How could someone possibly think to do something they were told about once 10-20-30 or more years ago? Come on, think about it.

I agree that it’s strange none of them survived. It doesn’t look like the vehicle split apart and people were thrown.

I get that. But still seems strange that no would be taken alive, in serious or critical condition. All 18 were essentially declared dead at the scene. I'm sure a lot of jostling can cause a lot of bodily trauma without seatbelts, but it appears the limo remained upright - it didn't roll down the hill - it skid/drove down it. Extremely tragic, nonetheless.

Traumatic brain injury. People were tossed around in a metal enclosure.

It hit a parked SUV. People said the crash sounded like an explosion.

Damn autocorrect

This would only apply to manual cars?

This article says some of the injured were transferred to a hospital. It's still early so there could be misinformation being spread. https://www.dailyfreeman.com/news/national/multiple-deaths-reported-in-schoharie-wedding-limo-crash/article_d91913f7-3a86-5792-8124-8a0457616a9b.html

I read that large trucks/heavy vehicles are prohibited in that area because of the steep slope. Those vehicles have a hard time slowing down on that hill for the stop sign at the bottom.

Just awful. On their way to Ommegang Brewery in Cooperstown.

No, you can slam an automatic into park. I did it by accident in a Mercedes car2go. I hate those cars...it's way to easy to hit park (it's just a little button by the steering wheel where my wiper control was in my old car.)
