Why don’t limos have airbags?

How does this become public information? Wouldn’t that be kept top secret?

They are pieced together through welding. One of the local news stations aired the safety requirements for Maryland last night. It was interesting to hear.

Read the Times article linked earlier written after 4 people died when a similar limo crashed three years ago on Long Island.

That link doesn’t say anything about the driver?

The driver is dead. I think they are still figuring him out. All we know is that he wasn’t licensed for a limo.

He wasn't licensed to carry 15 or more passengers. He was for the vehicle itself and any numbers under 15. And the occupants added more people at the last moment.

Brakes failed. They never stood a chance.

"The vehicle failed a Sept. 4 safety inspection in part due to an Anti-lock breaking system (ABS) malfunction indicators for the hydraulic brake system, according to records reviewed by ABC News."

It's ridiculous that stretch limos are even allowed on the roads. They don't meet any safety standards:

I hope something meaningful results from this tragedy--namely uniform safety standards.

On a limousine trade site there are a lot of new interesting facts.

The vehicle was listed for sale 2 days earlier for $9000.
The driver was cited in the past for not having the proper license
The driver often complained to his wife about the unsafe vehicles.
A passenger (there were 15 of them) texted before the crash the vehicle was in bad condition and you the loud sound was making everyone deaf. This makes it very interesting, if the muffler is not connected properly, Carbon Monoxide could be entering the vehicle me think the muffler was not connected property, all the passengers cold have died prior to the crash and there were no skid marks.

Will be interesting to see what the the medical examiner says.

Oh wow, so the wreck could have occurred because the driver lost consciousness from carbon monoxide? I hope for the passengers' sake that they were unconscious when it happened.

You can drive 15 people with a regular driver’s license. The lowest level of commerical license is CDL with passenger endorsement.

It wasn’t a dangerous intersection.

The speed limit is something like 30 mph and the limo blew past a stop sign and hit a parked suv.

You are contradicting all the news articles and the locals who are all saying it was a notorious intersection and that the state had tried to make it safer a few years ago but hadn't succeeded. Apparently it is all a steep downhill and there is no warning that there is a T-junction with a stop sign coming, so people who are not intimately familiar with the area are not expecting it. Because nobody anticipates there being a stop sign at the bottom of a steep hill with nowhere to go but a ditch, since that isn't a well-considered road design. Trucks were banned from that section of the road because too many were losing control. And there are some suggestions that the limo's brakes failed.

The “locals” refers to the manager of the restaurant being quoted in multiple articles. It’s not a dangerous intersection.

“Kirby says the local town supervisor worked with New York's Department of Transportation to bar heavy trucks from using the road.”
And more here: https://wnyt.com/news/schoharie-crash-intersection-concerned-residents/5100421/

Trucks that have lost their brakes—which were all of the previous accidents doesn’t make it a dangerous intersection. Those accidents were due to mechanical failures.

By ‘mechanical failures’ you mean a ‘felonious neglect to perform proper maintenance’ right? Let’s not believe that these are faultless incidents.
When you fail to maintain a vehicle, drive it on the road and kill other people that’s called ‘manslaughter’ and ‘murder’.
