5'2, 165 pounds, I know I'm fat but don't feel like it

You know how you will know?

If/when you lose 10 pounds -- just 10 pounds -- and lots of people ask you if you've lost weight and say how good you look. Then you will realize that the rest of the world sees the extra weight, and sees when it's gone.

I just went from 157 to 145 (5'6) and I'm hearing about it from people all the time. This is how I know how much 10-12 pounds looks like.

OP-

I think this is something to discuss with your doctor and highly dependent on your bloodwork. What is your blood pressure? Are you pre-diabetic? Diabetic? Cholesterol? etc

If you are headed towards diabetes..... then its too high no matter what you may think in your head.

This, 100%! I went from 150 to 127, then down to 110 (5'3"). Even the first five pounds made my clothes fit so much better and really had a noticeable difference.

This is true!

I went from 152 to 143 and I got SO many compliments. And I was still the same dress size - pants around 8-10 depending on brand. My waist was definitely more defined and my arms and legs had better tone. It was funny because I would have gotten discouraged with the lack of progress to a smaller dress size, but all the compliments definitely helped.

People notice - even if you don’t.

Similar stats, except I carry all my weight directly on my torso -- skinny arms/legs, imagine an egg with four toothpicks as arms and legs.

I think all these things are true. Sometimes I feel adorable, sometimes I definitely don't, and how I dress matters a LOT. In fact, I felt so good in my outfit today that I am going to take a picture and try to analyze what's working so well so I can duplicate it.

The question isn't "are you fat" (although many people will be happy to grace you with an opinion on that). It's are you healthy? are you happy enough with how you look?

As above, I am 5'2" and just having gone from 130 to 125 I now have a very defined waistline. And people have noticed and commented. 5 pounds is a lot of weight on a 5'2" person. My goal is losing 5 more pounds.

I carry all my weight in my belly; my arms and legs look really good (muscular). How do i get rid of belly fat? I have been doing Pilates 3x per week for several months just to target it but nothing has happened.

If you are happy then that is 80% of the battle. I’m so sick of being pressured to constantly diet - being told I’m not thin enough. I feel like no matter how much I lose there is still more that someone thinks I should.

FWIW - the time I got down to the “right size” for my 5’2 height (sz 2, 115 lbs) and got tons of compliments from friends/doctors etc.- I was full on bulimic - restricting, binge/purge, taking diet pills, abusing laxatives and working out 2 hours a day.

Needless to say...thin is not always the most healthy for everyone. My size 8 I’m in a much better mental place (recovered for 10 years).

Just be ok in your own body.

5 lbs is not a lot of weight on an adult, it might be considered a lot of weight on a small child. If people are commenting when you go from 130-125 it's probably your ultra critical boyfriend.

Young women comment on each other's weight, but women don't continue to do this later in life. They might say, "you look nice". We aren't evaluating each other weight and certainly wouldn't be commenting on it. Things get better, Op. If you want to lose weight I hope you do. Do it for yourself.

Meh.. totally depends on how you carry your weight. My 2 best friends can yo-yo 5 pounds up and down and nobody notices. If I gain or loose 5 pounds it shows a lot. We are the same height (5’5), the difference is that they carry the additional pounds across their body, with a slight emphasis on legs and arms. And I carry all of it on my belly and double chin. So I manage the feat of looking chubby at 120 pounds, still with stick legs and arms (and no I am not anorexic and have no eating disorder). When I am down to 115, I right away look very thin because my waist is defined again (totally change how my clothes fit) and my double chin is gone.

We are all very different
